Generally A&W is our go to fast food spot. While generally more expensive than the competitors, the quality of ingredients keep us coming back. We have visited over 15 A&Ws across the country and our experience is generally the same, which we would consider positive.
The A&W in Stephenville is an anomaly. Quality of food was horrendous. We stopped in for breakfast and our hash browns were inedible. The grease used to fry them could not have been changed in a very long time - it turned the hashbrown a dirty brown color and absorbed a distinct nasty taste which when I took my first bite caused me to urge and spit it out. The scrambled eggs were terrible as well, overcooked to a point of dry, paperless consistency with zero seasoning. Due to time constraints we didnt request new eggs or hashbrown but did have to return to the counter to request the sugar that should have been in our coffee.
We were in awe at the kitchen staff as well as front counter staff, and not in a good way. We watched as the kitchen was literally 'throwing' food together in a way that most A&Ws would be ashamed of. Clearly seemed as if the kitchen did not want to be doing what they were doing and it showed immensely. When we asked for sugar the counter attendant handed us about 25 sugar, pretty much whatever he could fit in his fist. While we were appreciative we let him know we only needed 2 and the rest would just go to waste - which he didn't seem to care about. We also asked for a spoon to mix the sugar in and we were handed another handful of about 20. We took the one we needed and left the remainder on the counter. He was very nice to deal with all the same, hence the 3 rating for service.
Based on our experience, there appears to be a shortfall when it comes to management/leadership, as the etiquette, cooking process and lack of cleaning/replacing of the oil in the vats would most certainly come down to how these workers were trained.
Overall extremely disappointed. I would avoid this particular location, no matter how strong those cravings for real...
Read moreThey only hire certain types of people (if you know what I mean) and those same people serve poorly made food slopped all over the bag and impossible to differentiate unless you pull apart the burgers. at a price where you would expect higher quailty then the 17 year olds at McDonaldâs, but they blow this place out of the water.
Plus easily understanding what food is what instead of having to stick your fingers in it. Or if youâre lucky enough to have one with no lettuce or something stupid like that so itâs easy to tell.
Moral of the story donât waste your money here. (60$ for 3 meals. 2 being for children. )
not worth it in...
