Doktor Luke's - a respectable coffee house — Restaurant in Sydney

Perhaps I visited at a bad day or time, but this was a pretty not great coffee shop, and ive been to a lotttttt of coffee shops

Disclaimer, I was there right after open, so maybe just not morning people

Service was pretty cold and short, kind of seemed like the staff really wasn't happy to be there

Only food options were a couple saran-wrapped baked goods behind the counter, kind of unfortunate that all the pictures of eggs benedicts and croissants from past customers seem to be out of date and no longer available. and to be honest, i may have had the worst mocha I've ever had here - unfortunately tasted like a 1/4 tsp of hot chocolate powder was added to some instant coffee.

God, even writing this makes me feel bad and icky, so I'd really love to stress that perhaps they were having a bad day, maybe they needed more time to open, maybe some things were out of stock etc. I genuinely would love to come back and try again because I'm a bit confused why this is the go-to cafe in...

It's not often I'll dish out a five-star review, primarily because I have a black belt in Karen when it comes to businesses in Downtown Sydney, but goodness gracious by the green grass. This establishment is superb, stellar, all the s-words except the bad one. Natalie is beyond efficient with her work to swiftly craft my black coffee, as black as the midnight sun, and Katherine's overly contagious smile just highlights my day that Vicodin can usually only fix. The staff, great beverages and snacks, and customers create a warm and cozy vibe you won't find in any other coffee shop around town, at least until the mainland. Though, I do often have cookies thrown at me, yet I won't ding off any points until one hits me in the face.

TLDR: Best coffee for espresso drinks in Sydney, not the best coffee you'll ever have if you've already been spoiled with near perfect coffee.

The most consistent good espresso based coffee you'll get in the Sydney area. Depending on the barrista and time of day you visit your coffee quality will vary, but for the most part it's good. Unfortunately being spoiled by all the great coffee shops in Halifax and the fierce competition for good coffee and because of that I have to say I can't give them more than 4 stars because otherwise I'd be showing bias.
