I've been there a handful of times now and the food and service has always been good. My last trip was less than ideal though. I place orders online for pickup since I live an hour out of town. And when I arrived to pickup my last order I was told it was never received/prepared (despite having the email confirmation/receipt and text message notification) I was told I would have to deal with the support team on their website...which doesn't have a phone number. So I was told to place the order and pay again in person. My credit card was already charged so I was hesitant but eventually did. I am still waiting for my credit card company to contact me to dispute the original purchase that was never received. I have not heard back from the Sushi Shop website support team and I'm disappointed that it wasn't handled better. Unfortunately, I will not return as I lost out on using my $8 in rewards for having an account as well as the $60 order, when the order could have been made for me with the proof of payment and receipt I provided. I was told the website is third-party run, so online orders (DoorDash, etc.) are not managed by staff and they have no access to them. But I placed the order directly through their website for pickup, not delivery. Now I must wait up to 90 days for my credit card to refund the purchase. Sorry, but as a customer who has spent hundreds of dollars here I'll be...
Read moreI don't get where these reviews are coming from. XD Osaka is by far, much better... Anyone whoe says Sushi Shop is better, is lying to you and themselves. I am a sushi fanatic. I dream sushi, I make sushi, I order sushi, and go out to eat sushi... I adore sushi... Sushi shop is not bad, they do have good items on their menu, but comparing it to Osaka is like comparing Pizza Pizza to Pizza Hut or Boston Pizza... Firstly, I love their Poke Bowl and Tonkotsu Soup. They have some good rolls, but unfortunately. their fish is kind of subpar. I am disgusted by their sashimi, which is my favourite sushi to eat... At Osaka, the Sashimi is completely fresh, tastes great, and you can see the natural fresh colors.. At the Sushi Shop however, Sashimi looks odd, tastes horrible, and seems like it has been sitting in water instead of on ice.. Just by the look, let alone the taste, you can clearly tell the quality is not there. The rice on the nigiri and other rolls seem to have been sitting for a bit as well. When I want quick and am not hankering for Sashimi, I will order the Poke Bowl, some Miami's, or soup, but if I want quality sushi, I will go to Osaka. Osaka employs actual sushi chefs, where as I only ever see teenagers working at Sushi Shop. Do not kid yourself by comparing the two restaurants.. There...
Read moreAugust 28, 2020: I’ve always raved about the selection, freshness and taste of any item on the menu. I realize 2020 has been a very difficult year for food establishments but today’s experience was abysmal and just plain disgusting. I ordered an Inferno, rolled so poorly they looked like they’d be smooshed before placed in the takeout container. The tuna tartare maki was inedible because it was much too spicy and couldn’t taste anything else (that says a lot coming from someone who thoroughly enjoys spicy food and is quite liberal with the wasabi). The biggest disappointment, because it’s my ultimate favourite item at the Sushi Shop, the squid in the spicy squid salad was hard/chewy. And to add insult to injury on a fairly expensive tab (nearly $60...including a tip), the salmon on the Volcano was barely seared and although they gave me an astronomical amount of wasabi and ginger on the side (don’t know what that was about), I had no soya sauce containers. None! As for sanitation, in a time when masks are mandatory in indoor public places, while the cashier had her mask on (and I had mine), the other employee, the one making rolls, was wearing her mask below her chin.I should have said something right then and there but this is such a hot topic, I held my tongue. So this “experience” gets a...
