Central Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Toronto

We visited Central Bar and Restaurant recently and had a mixed experience. On the positive side, the service inside was excellent — friendly, attentive, and welcoming. The food was absolutely amazing, and the bartender really made us feel looked after.

Originally, we only planned to have a few drinks, enjoy a good meal, and then head home. Unfortunately, our evening took a turn at the very beginning. The security at the front was unnecessarily rude to my friend, making an assumption that she was highly intoxicated and even whispering to her, “Don’t make me take you out.” This was completely uncalled for, as she wasn’t being loud, wild, or disruptive in any way — we were literally just paying the cover and being searched to go inside. It felt very targeted as we were probably the most sober people there.

To be honest, that interaction really killed the mood for the night. My friend didn’t feel comfortable or welcome after that, so we decided to just pick up our food and leave instead of staying for drinks as planned.

I went there with a group of friends for seafood Thursday. We called in advance but the seafood wasn't ready yet until around 7pm When we got there the place was empty with mainly bar service. It seems the table servers were just arriving. We finally got to order. The fish soup was really good as was the plantain. I ordered the spicy crab and lobster it was good flavour but I could tell the crab wasn't the freshest. Still enjoyable and not super spicy which is how I like it. My friend didn't like the seafood linguini it was sorta dry and pasty. The manager was totally cool about it and offered her curry shrimp dish which she enjoyed. The curry seafood medley was also good according to my other friend. The staff was very pleasant and the atmosphere was fun they had a DJ playing old soul and reggae music. As the night progressed more people came and it felt lively. Overall I enjoyed my time there and would go back.. my suggestion is that they add more seating for groups because most of the seating was cocktails table aside...

Food quality is the only reason I keep giving this establishment my business. Great food, but DO NOT ORDER from them online. I have been given the wrong order, or paid for things and not had them delivered, not impressed with the service at all. It's better to order and pick up in person so you can check before you leave to make sure you have everything correct. Lord help you if you try to call to rectify their screwups, pointless they have a phone because no one answers. Last order I put in, I specifically asked for sauce on the side and not on the wings and extra sweet chili sauce on the side. They put the hot sauce on the wings with extra hot sauce on the wings and no one could eat the meal on account that it was too hot to enjoy. I asked for festivals with the wings and received fries instead. I ordered a shrimp skewer which I never received, even though I paid for it, and an order of dumplings which was never sent either.
