Intolerant server toward clients with health issues. I was just visiting this part of the city/country and I was invited to this restaurant by a good friend. Since I do not much about Thai or Indian Cuisine I wanted to try it plus Canada is well known for their diversity and that includes cuisine. We arrived and I noticed the menu had a spicy (hot) in some items in the menu so I asked the waitress who was a Thai lady about a specific salad and main dish and I asked her if they were spicy as I told her I could not tolerate It will make me sick it due to my health. She told me that it will have Zero ( even making a gesture with her hands) spicy so I proceed to order it. The salad was perfect and no spicy at all. When the main dish came and I tried it I noticed that it was spicy so I stopped eating it and asked her to please check because it was spicy and started drinking a lot of water. Then she went inside the kitchen and came back to tell me that it was no spice added but that was the minimum of spicy they could do. She never mentions again the zero spicy. So I asked what about Zero spice you told me, she said nothing and told me they could make fried rice with chicken and I accepted it but told her to make sure that it had not spice which it did not. It was an ok dish but as being part of the good vibes we had in the group I ate it some of it. She came back saying a few times: "no spicy ".... "no spicy"; remarks I ignored I thought she was just trying to be apologetic. For dessert, I asked for a Mango ice cream as I love Mango. She brought it and said: "it had not spicy", again. A remark I again ignored. But when she brought the bill, she said " the Ice cream is on the house" and then she added "sorry we made you cry" and that was it. I told her that I did not appreciate her joking about a health condition I had, a condition which I had advised her in advance. She could have said not at the beginning and tell me that all food was spicy and it would have been fine with me, next time no Thai, lesson learned but making fun of my health condition, unacceptable. I do not recommend this place as they are completely intolerant to people with health conditions. No one came to apologize for her behavior and she just left with an angry face towards me, as if I had been the one in fault. I will never go back, if I am ever in this City. This is something should never have happened. I cannot believe this happen in Canada. I hope is just an isolated incident. A very bad experience, my friend was very apologetic but it was...
Read moreThe reviews lead me to try this place out and ... I'm not sure where they went but unfortunately the friendly and family run service didn't match up to the food. I really don't want to provide a bad review but I do want to warn people to expect Thai food quality similar to ones you find in the food court but unfortunately more expensive.
So in downtown Clarkson and off in a really tiny old strip mall is Mango Rain. It's a super tiny place alright... maybe only 10 tables in total with not a lot of seating. The service is clearly run by a family with an adorable younger girl helping out. I ordered by the phone and when I arrived, everything was set to go... or at least I thought it was.
With a simple order of the Thai vegetarian stir fried dish and an app of the chicken satay, the total came over close to $30. It seemed on the higher end for 1 person but if it tasted good and good quality, I wouldn't have that much issue. When I got back, I noticed there was no napkins, utensils ... nothing. Though I guess I could have asked when I was in the restaurant but most places do include them that I've been lately.
Thai stir fried vegetarian dish (Pad Pak RaumMit) - When I opened up the container... call me surprised. There was tons of liquid... and not a sauce but looks like a very heavy dark brown soup. It was at least 2 cm deep. Though this was a $14 dish, I've received more vegetables at other places for $10... and much better cooked. The broccoli was over cooked and very mushy. I couldnt tell if it was cooked from frozen but it definitely didnt taste right. Same went for the the bok choy... overcooked to the point it was just like a wet tissue. As for the 'soup'... Im not sure what is very Thai with it but it wasn't strong in any flavour... including Chinese soy based ones. All in all... for $14, it certainly was not a good dish at all and only filled the container maybe 60%. 1/5
Chicken Satay - This app was better... mild grilled marks on it and it was bordering on being dry and overcooked but at least the marinade made it taste pretty good. The peanut sauce wasn't very peanutty and the cucumber side salad literally fit in a tiny sauce container. It was ok overall 3/5
I wish this was a better experience for me but I'm really puzzled on all the great reviews. Owners maybe nice and kind but their kitchen isn't doing them any favours... if anything, I will unfortunately warn you to look for...
Read moreThe last time I went here was to celebrate my birthday and there were too many issues. My parents each ordered the chili lamb and it was very clear that they got beef instead, but the waitress would not acknowledge that because beef wasn't even on the menu--probably a cost-saving technique. My uncle ordered the chicken vindaloo and instead beef was given, the waitress acknowledged it wasn't chicken and gave us a new chicken dish. I wrote my dad's email address and gave it to the waitress with a brief written description of the issues we had and the owners never got back to us. My order of chili shrimp was the only correct order! However, the potatoes that came with the meal were soggy, probably re-heated from the previous day. Nothing is offered if it is your birthday, they could easily give you a scoop of mango ice cream but they don't.
I had been here before and the curries are usually tasty and are custom made to spice level. But for an upscale place with high prices, there is a lot left to desire: They don't bother to serve papadum with chutney as you are waiting for your food. It seems like they are frequently out of common items such as the mix for the mango daiquiri or the tandoori chicken, each of which happened to me 2 separate times. 3.The service is lacking in some respects, for example the owners make conversation with some of the tables but not others, not even saying hi. Once I went and saw a few tables empty which the waitress said were reserved so I sat at another one. I then saw her offer one table to people who when she asked said they did not have a reservation, and luckily for us they chose to sit elsewhere. I then told her what I saw and she sheepishly let me sit at the table she refused to before. 4.You have to go to the table by the door to pay, they don't bring the...
