EDIT: after 2 years, I decided to return, I joined the virtual waitlist and after waiting for 3 hours at a nearby bar, Mother cancelled my position in the waitlist (when I was next in line!) with no reason given nor notification. I tried to join the waitlist again, but I was now 5th in line so I’ve given up. Deplorable customer service as is expected. After walking in and being told we had to wait for 2 hours (which we did- at another bar) we got a text to return to it, when we did, another customer was there and had simply just walked in because he knew someone working there- the disdain from the host was clear as even they were shocked that someone jumped our line. We had thought they had also received a text or had a reservation, but we were whispered to and told this was not the case. Either way, we were seated promptly but not at our original table (as we were told). The host was fantastic either way, truly an asset to the organisation. The cocktail menu is vast and I really appreciated being given a full run through of the menu by waitstaff, it was a fascinating story of how all the drinks were inspired and concocted. After this, we ordered and then began a long wait. I have been to cocktail bars all around the world, and they are all consistent; high prices, good cocktails and most importantly, good service. If you’re paying roughly $25 for one beverage, it’s an expectation. Sadly, this is something which was seemingly not present here. Despite sitting at the bar, we had limited interactions with the bartender, which again is fine if it was consistent with other guests. But this was not the case, the bartenders were very friendly with their friends who were also seated there (the people that had ā€œjumpedā€ the line). On top of this, when we eventually caught their attention, we ordered and then began the long wait. I’ve never been to one of these ā€œfancyā€ cocktail bars and sat at the bar, and after nearly 30 mins had to enquire with the bartender as to where our drinks were. I understand, it is a busy bar and waiting is fine, but seeing the bartender talking and relaxing with other guests but not with us just felt a bit uncalled for. It seems that orders which were taken at the tables (beyond the bar itself) were mistakenly given priority over orders taken at the bar. A guest next to myself also had the same issue, as we were all seated at the bar. When the drinks eventually did come, they were outstanding. Very enjoyable cocktails with a plethora of good and unique ingredients. I will definitely be wanting to try more of them. The ā€œstoryā€ behind each drink is great and definitely a fantastic selling point. Mother is a difficult one to determine, I enjoyed the cocktails, I enjoyed the environment but it’s hard to give this a superb review due to the disorganisation that was happening coupled with a seemingly obvious ā€œpriority listā€. Of course, it’s expected if you know someone who works at a highly rated bar, you would use them to get a coveted table, but that shouldn’t cost other guests the same level of experience. I will want to return because I believe it was just an ā€œoffā€ night for the establishment and not a true representation of the brand. However, I’ll definitely be more weary with regards to the service and making sure that I either make a reservation or don’t sit at the bar itself.

TERRIBLE SERVICE. A LOT to be desired. Went to celebrate my partners birthday. The plan was to supply my partner with endless cocktails and food for the night. We however received non existent service. They took our order the first round but I was a struggle get the server again. We began with the apps and a cocktail. The apps were tasty. But don’t get the beet salad. It’s cut in tiny cubes. So small you can’t eat it with a fork. Which is the only utensils they supply. When we ordered another round of cocktails and two dishes to be the main, pasta and the chicken. The pasta came but the chicken was no where and sight like our server. Eventually I think a chef came out to deliver someone else’s food and noticed our water glasses were empty and filled them. I asked them about the chicken and then 10 minutes later it finally appeared. I had finished my pasta that I was chewing VERY slowly in hopes that I would be able to enjoy a meal with my partner. After we received the chicken. The hostess decided this was the moment to notify us of the time limit. That we only had 30 minutes left. We didn’t know that there was a time limit. At this point I was BEYOND furious to the point of tears. My partner didn’t even have an appetite because the situation. We left without dessert. my partner decided to take his food to go so he could eat in peace and we ended up sitting on a BENCH to finish it. I expressed my frustration with the situation. It was a very sorry you feel that way. Not sorry for the mix up or any accommodations. TERRIBLE SERVICE. Do not recommend. Never going back to this place.

What an exotic bar experience tonight. Takes you right out of queen west, even toronto, and far far into the world. Everything, and I meant everything about Mother, had the magical artisan’s touch. Starting with the name, the ingredients, the backstory. We ordered a Toasted Chai Pina Colada. Guess what the ingredients are. It had goats milk, chai tea, and turmeric curry powder in it, on top of the lemongrass rum. Its inspiration? A tale from Sri Lanka. Haha I wonder what happened on that trip. The bar shelf was filled with so many exotic liquor bottles and bitters and spices. Apparently they go to the end of the world to look for special liquors, and then create a unique recipe to make this liquor the star. Next, the phenomenon presentation. Our pina colada had a bay leaf wrapped around the tall glass with a tiny wooden clip. My neighbour girl’s drink had black sesame paste brushed around a whiskey glass the way a fine calligraphy master would tilt their wrist wirh the brush. The other bartender, reached over and cut a flowery plant from the vase to top off the milky form on another trip. ā€œI thought that flower was fake.ā€ I laughed. Next, the ambiance. A live duo was playing guitar and singing as we walked in, and the girl’s voice blew my mind almost instantly. Turns out, the duo is one of the bar cofounders, maxi (?) and his eleven year old daughter. Apparently he’s a professional singer from UK. And his daughter, gosh, let’s just she has the voice of an angel. If you don’t believe me, they have a YouTube channel too: smiles music duo. Check it out yourself.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting a local cocktail bar, and I must say it was an absolutely fantastic experience. From the moment I stepped in, I was struck by the ambiance and vibe of the place - it was cozy, intimate, and perfect for a night out with friends or a date.

The first thing that caught my eye was the impressive selection of cocktails on the menu. There were classic favorites like Old Fashioned and Manhattan, as well as more innovative concoctions with interesting flavor combinations. I ended up trying a few different drinks throughout the night, and each one was expertly crafted and perfectly balanced. The bartenders really knew their stuff and were able to recommend drinks based on my preferences.

In addition to the cocktails, the food was also exceptional. The small plates were perfect for sharing and paired well with the drinks. I particularly enjoyed the cheese and charcuterie board, which featured a delicious selection of meats and cheeses.

The service was also top-notch. Our server was friendly and attentive, making sure our glasses were never empty and answering any questions we had about the menu. The bartenders were also engaging and knowledgeable, making it clear that they were passionate about their craft.

One thing that really stood out to me about this cocktail bar was the attention to detail. From the presentation of the drinks to the decor of the space, everything was thoughtfully designed and executed. It was clear that the owners had a clear vision for the establishment and had put a lot of care and effort into bringing it to life.

Overall, I would highly recommend this cocktail bar to anyone looking for a sophisticated and enjoyable night out. The quality of the drinks, food, and service are all top-notch, and the ambiance is perfect for a relaxed and...
