Drop by for a quick lunch today. I had directed some friends to a place called Tzatziki, and they suggested Agora. In a word, SPECTACULAR. Here's why.
When you order a souvlaki wrap, it’s prepared exactly the way it is served either in Athens or on the Greek islands. Succulent pieces of juicy meat, in this case, chicken, a very light, extremely flavourful sauce which is a combination of olive oil, lemon juice, and some herbs. And you can tell that they are using quality olive oil and quality herbs. It’s noticeable and outstanding.
And if that were not enough, they jamb some perfectly cooked fries into the pita blanket of heavenly goodness, and voila. The perfect hand sandwich. I chose to skip the Tzatziki dressing because I’m more of a purist however, I suspect that too is top-notch.
For $15.00 this may be the best sandwich in the city. And why does the tiny place produce such a great product? They are part of the Mamakas group of restaurants and if you’ve ever dined there before, you know that they are the masters of taking simple and making it extraordinary. It’s no fluke that this place has great food. I will return many times. The pastries looked fantastic, and they offer some other classic staples in Greek cuisine like Mousaka, Soutsoukakia (Greek meatballs packed with flavour), lemon roasted potatoes and more.
Here's a tip if you plan on visiting and ordering takeout, know this. The sandwich will not travel well in a box. I found this out the hard way. Do yourself a favour. Grab a cold drink, your sandwich, and your dog, and your best friend, and walk 30 feet across the street to Trinity Bellwoods Park. Have a seat on the grass and enjoy! Trust me. You will not be...
Read moreFirst and foremost it's about hospitality and manners, we walked a few minutes past 2000 hs and the first thing ( not even one step over the front door ) we were greeted by was an unappetizing voice from behind the counter, announcing "we are closed". Having driven from Cedarvale neighborhood, we witnessed multiple dishes in the vitrine, packed prepared food, roasted chicken etc. Asking this person, who should seriously consider a career in something other than serving and offering Mediterranean hospitality, if we can take something already prepared as we were not picky, since the place " was now closed " the excuse was that the cash register was already turned off for the day and it would disrupt the accounting for the week, ... huhh ? Queen Street Street may may be cool to the tourist however having traveled the planet and true global iconic cities we can safely say that this is a 4 th tier town along with the sketchy and inconsequential characters that populate it both inside Agora Market and along this stretch of Toronto.
Aristotle would definitely never give a lecture at...
Read moreToday I went to get lunch here before staring my work shift and I ordered the Mousakka . It came packaged and cold but I wanted to eat it there. I can’t eat it cold. I asked the girl at cash if they can warm it up for me and I was told that it cannot be warmed up and that the restaurant was for take out only. If they are able to make warm meals for takeout they should be able to put the cold food in a microwave at least to get it warm. The place was empty. NO costumers. I think this was unacceptable because it takes a few minutes to just warm up the meal. It sucks because I was really hungry and I really needed to eat before my work shift. 🥺😭😭😭 I didn’t have time to go to find the place to warm my food and eat before my work. The girl at the cash didn’t even ask the kitchen if they were able to warm it up which was unprofessional. li think the service could have been much better. They should mention they should have mention the Mussoka takes 20 minutes to warm up before I...
