First impression was poor. Was not greeted at the door. Had to ask if we could sit even if the restaurant was completely empty.
The menu has random images scattered all over it. Some images beside food names are actually of food on the other side of the menu.
Ordered drinks, server pulled drinks from a fridge that is stuck open. Waste of energy and will obviously not keep anything inside it cold or fresh. When we received our drinks, they weren't just not cold- they were actually warm. Instead of receiving cups with ice to easily solve the issue, the server just put our drinks in the freezer for 5 minutes and gave it back to us. Obviously, our drinks were very warm. I doubt they even have cups in the restaurant. The management don't care about sustainability either considering they only serve water in single-use plastic bottles. This made me assume that this is part of why the food is more expensive than it's actually worth.
After ordering our food, we received it 10 minutes later- except we received only one out of 2 our meals. What made it worse that our appetizer arrived another 10 minutes later- after one of us had finished half of the meal. Completely took out the whole point of appetizers.
We ate their Salmon Don and Gyu Don which topped off our bad experience. Food tasted extremely lackluster compared to the price. R Sushi also has $80 donburi on their menu, but don't even know the basics of making one worth $5 that they've priced at over $20.
The salmon sashimi was warm as well. Everything that was supposed to be cold and fresh was warm. Imagine eating warm raw salmon. Even the rice was very dry- gives the experience of eating a donburi (rice bowl) much worse.
Was initially excited to go to a new sushi restaurant 5 minutes away from home, but started my disappointment the moment I walked in the door. Will...
Read moreA friend told us about the new opening of R Sushi and their opening specials. We visited the place this Saturday June 19 around noon and placed a sizeable order. We were told it would take two hours and to pick it up later. We came back around 3 to pick it up. I was surprised when my wife came out with one tray and paper bag which contained three small trays of which one was a free one. We got back home and decided to check the bill against what we had ordered. We were missing some items and one item was $43.95 to say the least. We bungled up all the items and drove back to the restaurant, 25 minutes away. We were missing four items. The staff was pleasant but my wife did not get an apology. How could they miss four trays of items on an order. Perhaps another customer got a hugh surprise when they got home with our missing part of the order and if they did not have to pay for it. We got back home and spread out the items. Again, we were missing items. They took our bag with the chop sticks, napkins, wasabi, and soya sauce when they checked our order. They gave us new bags without these items. I would caution all customers to scrutinize their bills to see they received all the items ordered and paid for. On the brighter side, I would say they did a great job on the food preparation. If not for the mix up, I would have given them a higher rating. As this was opening week, their appeared to be some items that needs to be ironed out. Lets hope this was an...
Read moreI went during their Grand Opening promotion which was a very good deal: 50% off and first 100 get 10 pieces of salmon sushi/sashimi (see photo, left)
First, i have nothing wrong with the staff, and in their defense, they wrote some message to all customers, like “please be patient with us, cause this is our first time”. also the lineup was huge for “11:00 am on a Sunday” (last day of their promotion).
So they definitely got my order wrong, even though they asked me to literally write it down on a piece of paper. i ordered NORTH YORK roll and definitely got the NEW YORK roll. see pictures, there is a massive wad of cream cheese in the roll.
Rolls were pretty small, especially if you pay their full price. As other reviewers mentioned, the rice is not “the sushi rice” that youd be used to. Even though i didnt actually order the new york roll, there was way too much cream cheese in there. the food quality is similar to a “really good AYCE” sushi place. The boxes the food came in are kinda classy, but i really dont think anyone cares. Wasabi was very generous portion. same with the soyasauce.
Overall I would never pay full price for this, and would only select this over other options (within 50 meters) if they had a similar 50% off promo and I was with some friend who had a bottomless pit stomach and only cared about “price”.
It was nice to try, hopefully they step it up after some feedback.
goodluck...
