๐ŸŒŸA WONDERFUL CULINARY EXPERIENCE! ๐ŸŒŸ Aama Nepalese Cuisine offers an incredible variety of dishes, catering to all preferences with options for meat lovers, as well as extensive gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan choices. We were delighted by the diverse menu! EXCEPTIONAL SERVICE The staff at Aama Nepalese Cuisine are truly outstanding: kind, friendly, helpful, and incredibly hospitable! They made our dining experience even more enjoyable. Remember to alert your server of any dietary concerns or preferences prior to placing your order, and they will gladly assist you. HIGHLIGHTS FROM OUR MEAL We thoroughly enjoyed the Tarua dish, which features perfectly seasoned and deep-fried sliced potatoes and zucchini! The accompanying vegetable chutney was a wonderful topping that enhanced the flavours. In addition, the Yam Fries were so delicious and with just the right amount of spice that they are truly addictive! Also, the hand-rolled signature Momos are a โ€œmust-tryโ€, with multiple delicious options to choose from: We particularly enjoyed the Yak Momo - Jhol and Veg Momo - Tandoori. SUPPORT LOCAL, TASTE AUTHENTIC YAK It's wonderful to see that Aama Nepalese Cuisine supports local family businesses by featuring local grass-fed Yak meat on their menu. This commitment to quality and community is truly commendable! This restaurant was selected in 2024 as an Avenue BEST Restaurant. ๐Ÿ‘๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŒŸ A TRIP TO MOUNT EVEREST We were intrigued to learn that once a year, they offer a fully paid trip to the Mount Everest Base Camp! You can enter this draw by selecting the qualifying dish. DELICIOUS DESSERTS The dessert menu looked so delicious that you'll want to try every item, which is a perfect reason to return! ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ‘The Himalayan Lava Cake is a definite favourite and is accompanied by ice-cream. LOCATION AND OWNERSHIP Aama Nepalese Cuisine is conveniently located across from the RCMP Cochrane Detachment, along Bow Valley Trail (Highway 1A) on the north side of the road in Mountain Ridge Plaza. Chef G and Tara are the dedicated owners and managers of this restaurant. SUMMARY Aama Nepalese Cuisine offers an excellent dining experience with a wide variety of delicious dishes, exceptional service, and reasonable prices. The food is fresh, flavourful, and clearly made with care. We definitely plan to return to try more of their enticing menu, especially those delicious desserts! This is a wonderful restaurant for anyone looking for authentic Nepalese cuisine in a welcoming atmosphere. Annie W. Master Reviewer Local Guide / Google Maps

If you're in Cochrane and craving something flavorful, warm, and culturally rich, Aama Nepalese Cuisine is an absolute gem you must visit. This place is more than just a restaurant. it's a beautiful experience that brings authentic Nepalese flavors and culture to Alberta. I tried several Nepalese dishes here and each one blew me away: ๐Ÿ— Chicken Choila โ€“ smoky, spicy, and perfectly marinated โ€“ a traditional favorite that truly delivers. ๐ŸฅŸ Jhol Momos โ€“ tender dumplings in a flavorful, spiced broth that warms your soul. ๐Ÿ”ฅ Tandoori Momos โ€“ hands down the best dish of the night! Smoky, juicy, with the perfect amount of char and spice โ€“ a must-try! ๐Ÿœ Nepali Chowmein โ€“ stir-fried to perfection, full of authentic flavor and cooked just like you'd find in the streets of Kathmandu. Donโ€™t forget to end your meal with the heavenly Coconut Rasmalai - a creative Nepalese-Indian fusion dessert thatโ€™s creamy, sweet, and unforgettable. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, with a beautifully decorated interior that reflects traditional Nepalese art and heritage. From the intricate brass pots and sculptures to the warm earthy colors and wooden decor, youโ€™ll feel transported to Nepal the moment you walk in. Also, a big shoutout to the owner, Gyanendra Sharma, who is one of the friendliest and most down-to-earth people youโ€™ll meet. Heโ€™s passionate about what he does, takes the time to chat with customers, and makes sure every guest feels right at home. This place truly captures the spirit of Nepal โ€“ warm hospitality, rich flavors, and a sense of tradition in every corner. Highly recommended for anyone looking to try authentic and delicious Nepalese food in Alberta!

We stumbled upon this place by accident while going back to Calgary from Banff and it was a really pleasant surprise! The place looks small from the outside but it has an indoor and outdoor sections. The indoor section is pleasantly decorated with original Nepalese artifacts and they are really wonderful to see. The owner family collected them over the years and the effort was worth it. We arrived towards the end of the service hour and was hoping to get through a rush order but the owner family was extremely generous and allowed us to order leisurely. We often miss such cordial service nowadays but this place was a bright exception - so, kudos for the attentive and friendly service. Now, the best part - the food was amazing. Nepalese food has one similarity with the Italian food that both require fresh but small number of ingredients and one needs to know how to precisely use them. The food was with a few ingredients and the yet the balance was just right. I had such good thukpa after a long time. We tried half a dozen dishes and they all passed with flying colors. So, if you are looking for a hearty simple Nepalese food with amazing service, don't miss this place. We made memories there and will revisit when we are in Calgary again!

This only thing negative about this experience is that I can't give this place more than 5 stars.

My friend and I went there for a girls catch up dinner and decided to try something completely new for both of us. After we ordered many items as per recommended from our server, one of the owner who heard it was our first time trying Nepalese food, came by with a complimentary roasted soybean salad to get us started and told us about the backstory of her childhood and this specific salad. Our first bite at this restaurant was just mind blowing.

Then as recommended by our server, the Yak Momos arrived with a side of spicy chili sauce. It took us a moment to understand what had just happened to us, but we can only explain it by "we died and came back to life". I never thought I would feel this way about "dumplings"?...

Then our Mains arrived. I ordered the Butter Chicken and my friend ordered the Lamb Shank. After what we had tasted, I was a bit afraid I had underplayed my choice with the Butter Chicken. Was I ever wrong. It was the most tender (I could easily cut the chicken with my spoon), and flavourful Butter Chicken I've ever had. The naan bread was also probably the best, most authentic I've had, which makes me question my whole food experience before this place. The lamb was so tender, my friend pulled the bone out without any effort. The flavours of the meat alone were unexplainably, perfectly balanced. The yogurt sauce was fresh and zesty, the veggies were cooked to absolute perfection... We we barely able to talk; our brains were short-circuiting from the flavours we were tasting.

Although extremely filling, we couldn't stop there, so we ordered the rice pudding for dessert and it was such a beautiful twist on the typical puddings you can find: not thick, vanilla tasting or extremely sweet, and the toppings made it whole.

The service was THE BEST I've had in... ages. Our server ended up being a red seal chef on medical leave for an injury and it was his first day serving. We were completely in shock; he was a pro. Basically, the whole experience was one for the books.

This is my new favourite place. Definitely going there for my next date nights!... We were there to catch up and vent about our problems together, but we didn't even need to vent. This fixed all of our problems!! hahaha! I wholeheartedly...

A New Year's Culinary Adventure in Cochrane

With two little ones in tow and the promise of fireworks lighting up the sky, we set out for Cochrane to ring in the New Year in style. After the dazzling display, hunger struck, and we found ourselves drawn to a Nepalese gem recommended by the local Facebook group.

Securing a reservation was a breeze, and we arrived just in time to be greeted by the cozy ambiance of the homely restaurant. Our appetites stirred, we dove into an array of dumplings featuring yak, chicken, pork, and goat prepared in various styles. Fearing an onslaught of overpowering spice and excessive ginger, I was pleasantly surprised by the harmonious blend of flavors and the impeccable execution of each dish. The tenderness of the meats, coupled with the perfect accompaniments, left us all grinning from ear to ear.

Next up were the vegetable spring rolls, freshly made and delicately seasoned with just the right amount of soy. The roasted eggplant with smashed avocado stole the show, though the slightly spiced tomato sauce added an extra kick that delighted the taste buds. While the pork belly with hints of ginger and lemongrass was a hit, the potato salad didn't quite hit the mark for me, though the kids seemed to enjoy it just fine.

For mains, the leg of lamb stole the spotlight, ranking among the best I've tasted in any cuisine in calgary and surrounds. Paired with smooth, flavorful mash potatoes and winter vegetables, it was a symphony of taste and texture and the jus was epic! Meanwhile, the Atlantic cod with roasted potatoes and grains was a fresh delight, perfectly seasoned and bursting with flavor.

As the meal drew to a close, we indulged in a sticky toffee pudding that was simply divine. The warm sweetness paired with a cool scoop of vanilla ice cream was the perfect ending to our culinary adventure.

Kudos to the husband-wife team behind this small restaurant in a quaint city. Their passion and dedication shone through in every dish, making it an experience worth traveling for. We'll definitely be back for more and highly recommend this hidden gem to anyone seeking an unforgettable dining experience. Well...
