FIX. Coffee Bar & Bakery — Restaurant in Town of Slave Lake

I had the pleasure of having lunch at Fix Coffee the other day. Fix is located on one of the more attractive streets downtown and is super easy to find. Inside you will find a typical urban coffee shop. It has a fairly rustic interior with art on display from local artists. The floor definitely needs some repair, so this isn’t going to be a five-star experience, but it’s comfortable enough to enjoy a meal with a friend.

I ordered the bacon and egg croissant and it was delicious. My chai latte was also one of the best I’ve ever had – considerably better than Starbucks. Clearly, the owners have put their greatest effort into the quality of their food and it shows. If I was rating this place on food alone it would be an easy five stars.

The service was just ok. I was served by a teenaged boy who was diligent and civil, but nothing more. You can tell when someone is genuinely happy to serve you and who takes pride in their work. You can also tell if someone is just doing a job that they get paid to do. This is ultimately a weakness in management. You can use coercion to face an employee to be polite, but you will never get anything more. Instead, to get the best from your people, you need to lead by inspiration. Had breakfast with my 11 months baby here. First time visited Slave lake. The food and coffee was definitely delicious that we even takeaway some pies and cakes to have it at the hotel. A little bit down part was the espresso machine was down so couldn’t try what we wanted but only the brew coffee.

The service was pretty disappointing though. The two ladies who took our order wasn’t friendly at all. No smile or greeting while we waited at the counter until husband tried to grab someone. They only showed us cold face and wasn’t really helpful. However others were very friendly when they came out from the kitchen. They left the counter empty while staff in the kitchen when there’s a gentleman came in twice and he couldn’t get someone.

Entire store was cleaned and cozy. Wonderful choice...

We stopped here a few times while camping near by. It is a very spacious location with interesting items on the wall and some mugs etc you can buy.

We LOVE the story behind the coffee they use!

The staff was super friendly and the treats very yummy! My husband requested they make some Black Forest cake (cupcakes) for my birthday and they did not disappoint! I had 3/6 of them ;0). We also tried their Oreo cookie while having a coffee there - it was very yummy!

We requested a Chai Latte with Oat extra hot however the extra hot was cooler than a regular and the regular was on the cool side. It would be great if they checked the temperatures to make sure they are...
