McGillicafey's Pub and Eatery — Restaurant in Trent Hills

My husband and I have lived in Hastings for 1.5 years now and have been coming to this pub 2-3 times a month we have been regulars here ever since we moved to Hastings. We noticed they hired a new manager and some new staff this Summer and ever since the service has been awful. We booked a reservation for yesterday evening and as soon as we sat down our server came to the table did not say hello she immediately accused my husband and his son for drinking elsewhere before we came to the restaurant. We told her no one has had a drink yet we came straight from work and just sat down. She continued to tell them about 3 times that they were already drunk after telling her multiple times they hadn’t. Finally she let us order our drinks they ordered 1 beer each and I ordered a virgin Caesar as I cannot drink since I am pregnant. I decided to speak to the manager after such a hostile and rude greeting and simply asked if we can switch servers. She then told us that she was the one who made her employee harass us about drinking before we came she did not care about customer service at all and then told us we would only be allowed to order 1 drink and that if we had an issue with that we could leave the restaurant. I did not understand why we were treated so horribly we hadn’t been rude to anyone or even spoke to anyone we came in quietly and respectfully and sat down. I also don’t understand why she would only allow them to order 1 drink when they hadn’t drank before they arrived and I was the driver since I cannot drink. I would understand if someone came in falling over drunk trying to order more this wasn’t the case at all also it’s a Saturday evening in a cottage country I’m sure most of the people in the restaurant has had a couple drinks at the cottage before dinner that night. The experience was so disappointing and the new manager has absolutely no care for customer service especially for a family who comes in as regularly as we do, we aren’t cottagers we live here all year round and use to love the restaurant but unfortunately if this is how we are going to be treated we just don’t feel comfortable going...

July 22nd I visited this restaurant to celebrate a friend’s 60th birthday. From the start it did not go well when a couple of us asked the server to change our sofa because it had an odd taste. The server seemed annoyed by that but did bring us new soda amd made sure we were all ok with the taste. I debated between the pub salad or the taco salad. I ordered the taco salad which was a big mistake. I was expecting a salad with shredded cheese, olives, jalapeños, salsa, sour cream, etc the way taco salad’s ate supposed to be made. Well my taco salad was a large bowl of lettuce, fried ground beef that had absolutely no flavour and was dried up. On top of the salad there were a few tortillas broken in little pieces.., I guess that was the garnish. I mentioned to the server that I was not satisfied with it food so she offered me sour cream and salsa to spice it up. I literally tried to choke down a couple of fork of the salad but all I could taste was lettuce and blane ground beef. I had the server take it away. I was offered something else but by. now my friends had close to finished their meals and the fact that we waited more than 30 mins for our meal I declined the offer. I got my bill and there was absolutely no form of discount and I was even charged for the salsa and sour cream that I was offered,When I brought it to the server’s attention she got the manager. The manager’s attitude was too bad, so sad, who cares. I paid my bill and left. The next day I called and left a message for the owner to call me…3 days later, no call. I would suggest another location rather than this one. Somebody needs to give them a crash course on what customer...

I'm incredibly greatful to the staff at this location. Today we had a large amount of family in from out of town for a funeral. A difficult time to begin with. In the throw of things and busy day we had not stopped to think of what to eat. Last minute I called McGillicafey's and they were very busy but after I briefly explained they found a way to fit us in to eat before the visitation. 8 of us arrived there, table was ready and staff incredibly friendly and prompt. I felt that they were attentive and made sure we were ordered and taken care of at all times, bringing an extra pitcher of water and making sure everyone was enjoying their mea The bill was never forced on me but she did quietly acknowledge I had to be out and at the home by 7pm so asked if I would like bill now. This entire interaction made a rather difficult time a bit easier to manage. These smaller things add up to huge things and mean a lot. My family is very appreciative of this service. We had come throughout the yrs on other occasions as my grandparents were longstanding community members and enjoyed eating here. I will certainly make sure to let others know and we look forward to eating here again whenever we are passing through this wonderful...
