I want to preface this review by saying it’s not meant to deter others from the brewery, it’s a lovely spot. It is more so to make ownership aware of my experience to improve. The brewery is clean, food is amazing, beers are delicious. But the service is definitely lacking. We waited to be sat outside and we let the girls know there was no rush. We had a menu to look at while we waited, and we had our beers already from the bar, all was well. Eventually we got our table on the patio. We waited for our order to be taken, no one ever came. I ran inside to see if we were forgotten, and there was a large group of 30ish people walked in. I told my mom the girls were busy and we would wait it out, as not to bother them. But eventually, being in the industry, I knew at this point we had been forgotten or overlooked so I asked if we could order. She was the only server that seemed friendly/even mildly concerned about our presence. She said yes, and someone else came shortly thereafter. We placed our order with a different server and all was good. Then the food came, no napkins, no cutlery, no water, I went myself to find some ketchup and vinegar for our fries and grabbed a caddy sitting on a ledge. No one came by the check on us or refill our beers, so it was just the one pint for me. I grabbed my mom a bottle of water from the car. Eventually we were needing to leave so I went inside to request my bill. Until now I’d been quite forgiving of the situation with the large group they had come by. This is where my understanding of the situation went out the window. All patrons had cleared from the bar and both bartenders were stood behind the bar chatting, one eating a meal. No guests crowding the bar, 3 girls on, and us out on the patio forgotten with not even a napkin. I really hope this is a one off for you guys because you have such a beautiful spot, it would be a shame to see more people like me be deterred by service like that. I tried my best to sympathize because too many times I myself have had to apologize to a guest for waiting while I was backed up or busy. But no one even acknowledged that we hadn’t been checked on, that they hadn’t gotten back to us. I hoped it was just ca case of being short staffed, but as I could see when I went inside to pay everyone had lots of time on...
Read moreOur first negative experience in Newfoundland. OK beer. So-so food. Not great ambiance. Lousy service. Arrived at 7PM on Monday and restaurant was not busy. We stood at entry near bar and two employees for 10” when finally a server walked by and told us we could take “table 5”. The pub was dark, has no view (which is difficult to accomplish in NL!) and was dominated by large screen TV with sports-talk on. The table had no menu, silverware or napkins. The 3-4 servers appeared harried. No one seemed friendly, which is a rarity in NL. After a too-long wait we were asked for our drink orders. We asked for menus. The plastic-covered menu offered very few items. There was no beer/drink menu. We ordered a beer and two burgers (beef and veggie). The beer, a brown ale, arrived fairly quickly and was decent. The wait for our food was long. The food wasn’t great; over cooked yet greasy fries, stale buns etc.. We had to ask for utensils and napkins. We were never asked if we wanted refills on our drinks; not sure how a pub can stay in business that way. The tab was presented and we were told to pay the $45 (1 beer, 2 burgers) at the bar. At the bar we were ignored as 2 other parties (who appeared to be locals) were tended to first for their beer refills. Our only disappointing experience so far in...
Read moreWe read great reviews but were really disappointed. Service = 0 stars First off the service was absolutely awful with 3 wait staff chatting behind the bar and an obviously junior staff member tasked with delivering our food. No follow up, no condiments and no cutlery. We ended up wandering around and found our own supplies and had to go to the bar and ask for water that we brought back to the table ourselves. Beer = 3 stars The beer had good promise. We ordered a flight and were excited to try the smoke porter based on the aroma. Unfortunately the beer fell flat with little body and very little depth to the taste. The others of the flight (Ryed and brown Ale) were similarly underwhelming with the one exception being the Bitter which was quite drinkable. Food = 4 stars We had the spinach dip, a selection of 3 different wings and a black bean burger with fries. The food was good but I wouldn’t consider it exceptional, especially based on the price point for what is essentially pub fare.
I cannot in good conscience recommend...
