I have been going to bump and grind for many years, and for a long time I considered it the best coffee on the drive. Unfortunately recently I have had a couple really bad experiences. I went in on this past Friday, and ordered a breve cappuccino, there were a couple of people in line ahead but it didn’t seem that busy. When I ordered, the guy on till seemed maybe new? And didn’t seem to understand what breve cappuccino meant, and seemed to have a hard time ringing it in, which is fine, but didn’t seem to communicate to me or the other people working his confusion. So I paid and sat down and waited for my drink, eventually the people in front of me got their drinks, and then about 4-5 people after me got their drinks. I realized maybe mine had been forgotten or maybe not told to the barista, which happens and isn’t a big deal, so I tried catching the eye of the people working to sort of let them know I was waiting for a drink. After about ten mins the barista realized and asked if I was waiting for a drink, I told her my order, and she apologized and started making it right away. When it was ready I grabbed it and went and sat outside with my friends who had been waiting for me, and tried a sip of this long awaited coffee. Upon first sip I instantly realized it wasn’t breve, so I went inside to check in, maybe the barista hadn’t heard that part? When I went back in and asked if it was breve, she just shrugged and made a soft sound, I didn’t really know what to say, so I said what? And she said ....well mostly? I was so confused and frustrated at this point I just sort of looked at her, then said oh okay.... and went back outside. Here’s my issue with this, I felt really brushed off, and dismissed. I couldn’t drink my coffee if it wasn’t breve because of my diet and so I had paid for a drink I couldn’t drink and wasn’t communicated with at all. If they had said they were out of cream I would have understood, but after I went outside no one there tried to talk to me or explain or even just acknowledge what had happened. I don’t think coffee shops have to bend over backwards in customer service and I have worked in the service industry many years, but I also don’t feel like I should order and pay for a drink, and not get it, and not be told any reason or have t acknowledged by any of the three staff working. Honestly, I will probably not get coffee here again, and I will let other people know my...
Read moreSorry, but I know what this place used to be like. Two owners ago the Asian lady ran this like a top notch establishment. She carried on the excellent tradition that preceded her. There were trophies on the shelf for the awards their barista won in competitions, so it’s not just my opinion as to how amazing their coffee was. The next owner, a fellow from the Middle East, had the wisdom to not change a good thing, so he made a point of learning exactly how they made their coffee and kept to it. The cappuccino was my favourite. This used to be perhaps the best coffee shop on the Drive. Now Moja is probably the #1 coffee shop on the Drive, and Uprising Breads, though hit and miss, can make a great (albeit strong) cappuccino. I went in here just after the current owners took over. No connection to this place’s past excellence in coffee making. Just some burnt kind of flavour to the cappuccino that you would get in a low end coffee shop. I’ve read a few of the comments, and have seen that the owner gets kind of testy with those who give low reviews, but what am I to do? I know what this place used to be like, my wife worked in a coffee shop, and those who run competitions all agree to the former greatness of this place. So as an owner, why not just be humble and recognise how excellently they used to make coffee here instead of thinking one knows better when they actually don’t? They could have learned from the last owner how to carry on the tradition of this place. I’d rather give 1 star, but since I just had the cappuccino, I’ll give them 2 stars for benefit of the doubt. But a cappuccino should not be burnt and bitter. I’m actually...
Read moreHung out here to kill some time on Christmas Day since we were waiting for restaurants to open.
First of all, the decor is amazing. I don't know if it's because of the season, but the walls and shelves were lined with cool little gifts! There are also tons of wonderful art from local artists. I got myself a pair of moon tarot card earrings that I can't wait to put on.
I tried two coffees, a Pistachio coffee, and a Toasted Marshmellow coffee, both iced. Loved them both, and although I have no clue how coffee should be, I enjoyed them a lot! (For example, the barista asked if I wanted room, and I was like, "uhhhhhh idk." They didn't make fun of me, so that was cool.)
Afterward, I also had an absolutely delicious Apple Cider w/ Cinnamon, and then spent some time drawing up a little danger penguin to put up on the front counter along with the other little crayon art pieces.
Needless to say, I definitely want to come back. It's such a...
