We came here for an afternoon tea at 2:15pm on Sunday. We called a week in advance to reserve a table for four people. We checked on the menu on their website. It looked good and the price was reasonable. We gave it a try.
When we were seated at the restaurant, a menu was right in front of us. The menu showed 6 blended tea and 3 afternoon tea sets that we could choose form. The 3 afternoon tea sets were:
Traditional Afternoon Tea at Butter $30 per person Butter’s Demilune Afternoon Tea $18 per person Children’s Afternoon Tea $22 per person
Obviously we wouldn’t order the children’s afternoon tea. We told the server that each of us would like to order the Butter’s Demilune Afternoon Tea, because we ate brunch earlier in the morning and we felt we would be very full if we ordered the Traditional Afternoon Tea (a full set of savoury and sweet food). Unfortunately, the server said we did not order the Demilune Afternoon Tea on phone when we reserved a table. The server who took our call also did not mention anything about the food or menu. We felt it was a ripe off because the website did not list the Demilune Afternoon Tea. All of us did not know that we must preorder what we wanted on phone. If we did NOT mention what we wanted on phone, it was a DEFAULT that the traditional afternoon tea would be ordered for everybody. This is very misleading!!! We were kind of pissed, but since we had already decided to come and try the high tea here, we had to go with the Traditional Afternoon Tea.
We highly recommend their website should list what their high tea is included, so at least people know that they have options and they should specify on phone about what they would like to eat when they call in to reserve a table. We would be much appreciated if the server told us clearly on phone.
We tried the savoury and sweet food. All of them were just okay or average. We did not have a “wow” impression on the food. We actually liked the high tea at Truffles Fine Goods in Van Dusen Garden. Their sandwiches and pastries were great and their price was cheaper than Butter Baked Goods. We also felt it was much more comfortable sitting at Truffles Fine Goods. They had tables inside and outside the restaurant. More spacious.
Where we were seated here was next to the counter or a bar table. People or servers walked behind us very frequently that two of us were very uncomfortable that we had to be aware of someone or people who walked behind all the time. Having high tea on a weekend should be enjoyable, but obviously this one was not.
However, all the servers here were friendly and took care of all customers. If we would like to have high tea again, we would not come back here most likely as there are good...
Read moreThe carrot cake is to die for. The staff were all very kind and professional. The decor is delightful.
I found this place when I Googled "best cinnamon buns in Vancouver" a few weeks ago, and DailyHive's Dished article "Best cinnamon buns in Vancouver you need to try" recommended this bakery. I fell in love upon seeing their website. I made it my mission to visit here ever since.
When I went in around 4 pm, I learned that the cinnamon rolls always sell out in the morning as they make only one batch. I doubt I will ever get up early on the weekend (lol). They open at 8 AM, but I begin work at 8 AM from Monday-Friday, so I fear my desire to enjoy their rolls may never be sated. I don't know the economic logistics of making more rolls so that they can still have some available later in the day, but it would be nice! : ) At least for me :D
There's one star off because the website advertised waffles and French toast, which was a huge selling point for my friend and me, but they no longer have them. I lured my friend along with me by feeding him thoughts of French toast (his fave) and with dreams of buttery waffles (my fave brunch item), only to learn when we got there that they have new owners and no longer offer either of those items. The carrot cake was a divine stand-in but not brunchy. We went somewhere else for brunch afterwards.
I've noticed they've updated their website to show their new hours. I would recommend they comb through their entire website to ensure it is up to date as well.
I absolutely adore this bakery and am already dreaming of returning! My friends know I am a cake fiend and have a big sweet tooth. Also, I bake and enjoy decorating pastries.
I am impressed with the beauty and skill of the artwork on their goodies.
Carrot cake is my fave type of cake. The mouth-feel of their carrot cake is perfect. You can taste the quality in every bite.
The level of sweetness in their goodies is spot-on.
I am looking forward to going back! yum :)
Note: I've updated this review to five stars because of the quickness of the owner's response, as well as the fact that they now have three batches of cinnamon rolls...
Read moreWhere to begin . Work in the local film industry , have spent thousands of dollars over the years at Butter . Love the product . I am working on a high end project and was asked to put together a last minute order and I wanted to give Butter the business . The strict policy code regarding cupcake orders, lack of any flexibility , lack of desire for customer service and dialogue of how and why the request could not be filled this morning was beyond astounding . I am still speechless and have to say to the owner Rosie that I hope you are reading this review ! Wow , the staff representing you this morning including the manager was so not the level I expect from your bakery store . I called explaining that this was a last minute request and that all I wanted to do was try and put some sort of bakery order together over the phone . It would be no different if I walked in off the street except that I cannot leave my job to come into the bakery in person . I also explained that I was not married to any particular flavour etc and that at this point I would be happy to take what was avaliable ! All I got out of this morning’s call was resistance and not once did she say let me see what I can do and I will get back to you . I even took the time to call back and try to explain to her what and how she should Handle customers . I know this much , There is always a solution , there is always a way , it just depends how much people want to make it happen . I took my business elsewhere and probably will from now on , until I see a change . Before anyone tastes your baking , they have to deal with your staff . Most important position is the manager who sets the tone , right after the owner of course . Today’s rating would be a 1 out of 10 Please hire staff that complement your delicious baking. Last time I checked you were a business who is about serving top notch baked goods , maybe in the future the staff you have could demonstrate the same...
