Authentic Bavarian Pretzels Have Arrived in Vancouver – Thanks to MunChi
It’s a rare and welcome treat to find truly authentic Bavarian pretzels in Vancouver—but MunChi delivers exactly that.
I first discovered MunChi through Instagram, and I was immediately intrigued. Their visuals alone promised something special, and when I visited their former Chinatown location, I found much more than I expected. The menu offered a broad selection of traditional German fare, far beyond just pretzels.
Everything at MunChi is crafted in true German style, with a clear commitment to authenticity. For those craving the real taste of Germany, this is the place to go.
One standout for me is the Leberkäsesemmel—a must-try item. If you're even remotely curious, don’t hesitate. It’s absolutely worth the trip. Another personal favorite is the Brezel with cream cheese and chives, a classic snack I enjoyed frequently while living in Germany. MunChi’s version transported me straight back to Berlin.
The heart behind MunChi is Amelie, whose passion for German cuisine is evident in every detail. She goes above and beyond to engage with customers and ensure an authentic experience. She was incredibly generous with her time and happy to answer my many questions. Meeting someone so genuinely dedicated to sharing her culture through food was a true pleasure.
As for the occasional negative reviews, many appear to stem from delivery service issues, which are outside of MunChi’s control. Based on my personal experience, I can’t help but feel those reviews don’t reflect the reality of what this place offers.
Having sampled every pretzel I could find across the Lower Mainland, I can confidently say: if you're looking for the authentic taste of Munich, MunChi is...
Read moreWe placed our order several days in advance, well before the scheduled pickup date. Then, just 20 minutes before pickup—while we were already on the way—she canceled. There was no offer to make up for the inconvenience, which was incredibly frustrating. We were preparing for a road trip and had purposely bought less elsewhere because we made a large order with her.
Even though this happened last year, after reading recent reviews with similar experiences, we felt it was important to share ours. Clearly, this wasn’t an isolated incident, and I’m sure many others didn’t even bother leaving a review.
What’s even more disappointing is that she only seems to respond or offer anything after someone posts a public complaint. That’s not how responsible business owners handle their mistakes. If you mess up, you reach out and make it right—not just when your reputation is on the line.
To add to the concern, we even spoke to a woman who had worked for her and said she had to chase down her pay for months. It’s incredibly disappointing to see such poor customer service and a lack of accountability. I really hope she takes steps to improve how she runs...

Follow Up: It turns out they are away and forgot to turn off the ability to order on their website. Amelie said she will take care of the order when she returns and and was very sorry. A honest mistake, all should be good.
I order a dozen pretzels online, entered the pick up time, per their website, paid for the items. When I went to their house (the business is run from a home) I rang the door bell knocked no one answered. I hung around for about 15 minutes thinking they maybe running late and no one came. I called and texted them while waiting at their door and no response.
I went home and waited to hear from them, no response. I have called, texted and emailed them multiple times, no response after 4 days.
They have taken my credit card payment, and have not provided the product and wasted so much of my time. I sincerely hope there is no personal problems but I would no be ordering for...
