Pandora park is one of those hidden gems that makes Vancouver so special. This is one of my favourite parks in the city for a few reasons, not the least of which is proximity. In additional to being a beautifully maintained green space, lined with mature trees along the north side, it also has a community garden, enclosed dog park, courts for various sports (tennis, basketball, etc.), a nice little playground, and in the summer a waterpark. It's also really interesting topologically, situated on an incline, and has preserved a lot of the character of the land, so it's not just stretches of wide, flat, non-native grass. The park was named on February 11, 1914 after its bounding street. The street was named for HMS Pandora which was lost in the south sea while seeking the mutineers of the HMS Bounty. Two buildings once stood on the park: the Women’s Rescue House and the King’s Daughters’ Convalescent Home, which later was equipped and renovated by the Lions Club for the blind.
