While we’ve been to Romer’s Burger many times in the past, it’s been quite a while since we last visited. Their location in SE Vancouver has been around for quite some time but now, with all of the development on the Fraser Flats, getting here and finding parking can be a headache.

In any case, we made the trek over and found one of the last few parking spaces available in their lot (and it was barely 5pm when we visited). Now, you would expect that we’d order a burger while we were here given their name but we weren’t really in the mood for a burger and wanted to try some of their other offerings.

With a name like Voodoo Meatballs ($10.95) and with a description which states that it comes with “wicked voodoo sauce”, you’d not be faulted with expecting this dish to be seriously spicy. However, as our (somewhat overly-friendly) waiter explained, it wasn’t spicy at all and they just used the work “wicked” to say it was a really good sauce. The spiced pork and beef meatballs turned out okay… definitely not spicy though.

We also ordered their Pickle Jar ($5.95) with house-brined pickled and crushed red chilies and Brussels Sprouts ($9.95) with Parmigiano-Reggiano. These items were both spot on and descriptionally accurate. Best dish of the night was the caramelized Brussels sprouts.

I opted for the To Die For Mac Cheese ($13.95 + $2.95 for chorizo sausage). As with the meatballs, the name of this dish was a bit overly exaggerated. I had high expectations for this dish but was underwhelmed with the luke-warm temperature that it was served at. While it was quite cheesy, the temperature really threw things off. We decided to bring most of this dish home and, when we reheated it, it was better… still not “to die for” but at least enjoyable.

While I was a bit disappointed with this last visit, I do have fond memories of their unique burger offerings so I might just stick to those items instead of going with their non-burger items.

Update: Feb 2024 It's been about 4 years since we last visited here. Surprisingly, we didn't get a burger when we came in Feb. Instead, we ordered their fish and chips, crispy fried brussels sprouts, and their golden and purple beet salad. Compared with our last visit, these non-burger items were quite satisfying. Large pieces of crisp battered fish. Tasty Brussels sprouts and...

I was out for a walk with a friend and my two kids when we came across Romer’s Burger Bar. It looked busy and we were all hungry so we decided to stop by and put our names down on the wait list. I’m not sure if the host was high or not but he kept laughing and couldn’t even give an answer of approximately how long the wait was or any question for that matter. Any response was giggling and smirking. There were many people seated outside on the patio but when we asked to sit on the patio he said it was too cold because we had kids with us. (We were already outside for a walk and dressed appropriately) It ended up being about 45 minutes so we went back inside and when the staff saw us we caught them looking at us and whispering. Obviously they were talking about us probably not in a good way. When we were seated the service was slow but we were understanding because the place was quite busy. We ordered a vegan-ator burger, tomato basil soup, parmesan onion rings and kids sliders with fries. The vegan-ator burger and tomato basil soup were decent but the server never brought a spoon for the soup and was nowhere to be found. So we had to get up and look for a spoon ourselves. The onion rings were also okay but the kids sliders were plain with no sauces. (Any sauce was an extra cost) It was just a bun with a patty that was burnt on the outside and raw on the inside, which is not acceptable for kids. Eventually after 20 minutes went by, the server finally came to check on us. I let her know that the sliders were inedible. She offered to replace them with new ones but everybody was already done their food and were ready to go. What’s the point of going to a restaurant when you aren’t being served? Might as well eat at home. Overall the food wasn’t too bad but the service was extremely unorganized and unprofessional. My kids were still hungry when we got home! It’s a shame we won’t be coming back here because we live very close and pass by this restaurant for...

Beyond disappointed!. I was down in the shopping district right at save on foods and all the other restaurants and I looked at the hours for Romers Burger bar, which is closer to where I live and instead of buying food or going to a restaurant there I walked all the way down to Romers Burger bar, which is close to my home. It was about 9:28 PM when I walked in and I stood there for a minute with the guy in the kitchen going about his business and knowing I was standing there and then finally, he told the girl who was working that I was standing there. She came over, chewing on food and said sorry. We already did last call. We have a party next-door so we’re closing early. I explained to her your website says 10 PM so I walked all the way down here and I am hungry and I could have gone to another restaurant down in the shopping district so now I’m going to have to walk all the way back there to get food… And what is next-door??. She’s like oh we have a staff party… Well, how lovely for her that she’s already chewing and eating food while she’s talking to me and she’ll be eating some more quite soon while I have to walk all the way back down to locals to get dinner… The best part when she says to me, sorry we already did last call. She literally turned away from me while she was saying it, and walked back to her cash area… As I was standing there, I said I can tell it your story because you turned away from me while saying it and walking away… She just turned her head and looked at me and didn’t even acknowledge… Zero empathy and rumours really needs to change their hours on their website if they are not going to be open to serve customers… i’ve lived in the area for 15 years and when I come in there, I’m spending about $50 for a full meal so that was extremely disappointing… Icing on the cake...

We went here with our group of friends, my burger was just mouth watering but my wife’s steak was not close to medium rare as requested but they made it up for her by making another steak dish that was actually medium rare this time and let her kept the first dish without any charges! Now that’s professional service
