Went here for the first time about 3 years ago and used to be my regular Fish and Chips spot! The restaurant is now totally ruined, not the same whatsoever. Prices have went up a ridiculous amount since my first time there and still comparing to competitors they are the highest price even though their portions have actually gotten a little smaller. One thing I’ll give them is the quality of the food is good and I can’t say I don’t enjoy their halibut but the fries are now always stale. I think they also recently must’ve of gotten new owners cause they are so cheap.
Biggest reason I’m writing my review today was from my last visit where I ordered a halibut combo and single Halibut on the side. Order was for pickup, once I payed I went through the order just to make sure everything looks good when I realized they only gave me 2 small cups of tartar sauce which were only halfway filled. I kindly asked the gentlemen to get some extra sauce and instantly he started giving me attitude saying he already gave me sauce. When I told him I would just like extra sauce because we really love to dip are Halibut into it he told me that he won’t give me any. I pulled out the two small cups and said this is all you gave me for 2 halibuts. He raised his voice and said ONE is enough. Honestly I couldn’t believe it, I asked for the manager and then he got really defensive and said okay I give you tartar sauce but I charge 50 cents per cup.
At this point I was so dissatisfied with the service and the fact that he couldn’t just charge me the 50 cents from the start instead of telling me that I don’t need any extra tartar sauce has me in disbelief. I’ve never disliked a meal so much in my life just off how was I treated.
I can confirm King of Fish and Chips will never receive my service ever again and I wouldn’t recommend anyone to go back there.
If you need a new spot I recommend Heritage Fish and Chips in...
Read moreBest fish and chips in Vaughan and as authentic as you can get in London, UK. The portions are generous and well priced at $22.99 (via UberEats) for 12oz Haddock, small chips, coleslaw, lemon twist, and fresh tartar sauce. The Haddock batter was thin and crispy, and fish was moist and tender. The chips aren’t crispy or seasoned, but they’re not supposed to be as is the case in England. Although chips are usually more lightly cooked, I prefer browned chips for more colour and flavour. The fish has all the crisp you need and it pairs well with soft chips. The vinegar based coleslaw was thinly sliced and adds great freshness. I appreciate the fresh lemon included, and malted vinegar and ketchup packets on the side. The fresh tartar sauce was great. It’s not too tangy, and I prefer that so you can add as much or little lemon/vinegar to taste.
My only small criticism is maybe add more seasoning (salt) to the fish and/or fish batter. The fish and chips were a bit oily, and although I’d prefer it less oily, I know that’s a challenge without losing the crisp texture - it didn’t bother me much. Maybe a slightly higher temp and shorter cook time? However, the oil was fresh and no bitter taste (that comes in old or unfiltered oil) - I greatly appreciate that. You have to level set expectations when it comes to oil - you’re getting fish and chips, and not a salad.
Overall, it was delicious and I highly recommend to anyone looking for great fish and chips, and definitely best in Vaughan (after having tried many). I called the store to let them know on a job well done. I had to give due respect and appreciation. I wish I had taken pictures, but I was much too hungry. Bottom line, get...
Read moreI am very dissatisfied with this establishment. We ordered the halibut and fries and I have never experienced the worst stomach pains from eating from a fish and chips place. The fries tasted like they had been sitting in a fridge for 2 days before they ended up in the deep fryer and I swear they looked like and tasted like the potatoes were rotten! The halibut was dry and tasted like it was frozen fish that had been defrosted and then tossed in fresh batter to show the appearance of fresh fish. I am not impressed because we were charged about 80 bucks for the most disappointing meal of seafood I have ever had. Sincerely a person who cant stand people that say they are the best when they are the worst.
I will never eat here again. Over charged gave us all gut rot making us all sick. The owners consider this review dishonest but guess what I am never dishonest about the food I eat and when I throw up the morning after eating at an establishment then there is definitely something wrong. Maybe it's because of covid and they are too busy to care for quality but I will still not be giving a second chance to this place not after hearing such high reviews and then ending up sick to my stomach.
Fyi it was my first experience with this place my husband ordered 3 orders of halibut and fries and we all agreed we would never be back. Hope no one else has such a horrible...
