Tl;dr: Absurd random price hikes by the owner, several strict rules for a supposed "buffet", the owner constantly monitors at you during your entire stay (to make sure you don't steal??), no free tap water, and stale food.
I had high hopes of finding an affordable buffet, but instead I found a super stingy owner running a militant restaurant. The "Buffet to Go" in small sized box is priced at 6.99 but is subject to the owner adding an arbitrary amount of money for "overfilling the box (even if it closes normally)" or even if you choose "too much meat and not enough vegetables". What the heck? You even have to fill half the box with rice or noodles, and even while following all these rules, he decided to charge me $10 for the $6.99 box. The owner, who also works as the cashier, is pushy, and constantly on surveillance even when you are eating. Additionally, no water or even tap water is free, and must be purchased for $1.25. He also only provides a single napkin per customer even if you ask for more. When it comes to the food, it is mediocre and generally stale, so it suffices for fast Chinese food but it was definitely the worst "buffet" I ever ate at. For the price and amount you get, you are much better off paying around $5 and going to Imperial Buffet or Mandarin for lunch. Never going back there again, and I regret paying $10 for the least satisfactory lunch I...
Read moreI had gotten food from this restaurant a few times now. My kids are on a pretty strict diet (non allergens), and as we know, it is very hard to come by restaurants who truly honour this restriction. First of all, I trust the owners of The Bean Sprout. As a parent of children who require "special considerations", I can relate and respect their determination to do what is right for their child, and I trust this very much. I know they take this very seriously. Secondly, they have always been kind and pleasant in my experience with them. I value this a lot! They have even gone out of their way to entertain my daughter when we came to pick up. Such gentle and kind people. And, of course, the food - I would not for one second guess that it "lacked" anything! Gluten, dairy, peanuts, soy, whatever it is. Their food is made with LOVE, you can see it in the presentation - generous and made with care - and in the taste. Honestly, the food is great! I wish only that the price was less, it is slightly more expensive than some other places, but truthfully, they are rare (allergen free) and the quality of their food and service is well worth it. I believe this is my first review ever, as I felt compelled to give these owners the praise and appreciation they deserve and also tell others about it so they can enjoy it too 😊 Thank you! I wish you many...
Read moreThe Bean Sprout is an establishment that I first went to many years ago to enjoy their lunch buffet. At that time they provided great food for a great value. Their food is of what you'd expect from a typical Chinese fast food BUT it is prepared fresh. The taste is unlike any other, and often times you can see it being prepared freshly on the spot.
However In recent days the restaurant had significantly increased their pricing for their food. This place used to offer a great value of a $10 all you can eat buffet, however those days are long gone.
You can now expect to go here and eat the same good tasting, quality, chinese fast food BUT you will be paying Mandarin Buffet prices for it. It is no longer a value spot of mine but rather an occasional daydream of what once was.
Their take out buffet is also a little pricey, filling up a plate for myself came to around $15 with a drink... I would've rather eaten at a mall food court for that price and I know I could've gotten more food.
My rating of 3 stars is not to reflect the customer service, nor their quality of food. Because they exceed expectations when it comes to their customer service and food. But rather their 3 star rating for their pricing...
Bean Sprout once was a great cheap value in the neighbourhood.. but no longer... its The Bean Sprout Mandarin...
