I searched for a LaROCCA cake online in waterloo and it showed me that Farm boy is the place i will find this in. we went to farm boy and the girl at the bake shop told us that we only have 1 LaRocca fudge cake which is displayed, i showed her the picture which was not matching. But we decided to buy this one which she said. i asked if this is fresh? she said yes we just placed it on the shelf and we have 6 same cakes in our kitchen too. i requested her if you could get me one of those six from the back. she said okay, then she came back and said all six have been ordered so you can only buy this one. (I could have asked that take this in the order for 6 and swap mine, because she was not being honest it was clear)
Anyways, my husband asked okay we will buy this one. there was no LaRocco logo on the cake plate as well but she said no it is LaRocca cae however other cakes had LaRocca plates. we bought this one and she said it can stay fresh up to 7 days if placed in a refrigerator. we told her that my birthday is tomorrow so we want this to be fresh. she said of course.
on 25th June, when we cut the cake, it was so hard, sour smell and totally not fresh. yet we cut and ate it as we had no other option. at night time my throat started to ache. i asked my hubby in the morning and his throat was hurting too and so was his stomach.
then we realized we ate nothing out of routine just the cake.
Now we just want to throw it and dont feel like going back to store to complain and ask for refund or anything, after skipping our office and drive 10kmBut what I can do is give my feedback here. VERY...
Read moreNot sure how I feel about Farm Boy. We've been shopping here for a solid two years, and overall there's a lot to love, but at the same time there are a few subtler aspects that just leaves a bad taste in my mouth (both literally and figuratively).
First, their farmboy-branded products can be a hit or miss imo. Some are quite good actually, but there are others that taste a bit funny (e.g. their sauerkraut). Also, some of their desserts are loaded with WAY too much sugar. Not everything needs to be sweetened to death.
However, what really made me post this review was the fact that I found a fly INSIDE my cake today. I bought a slice of red velvet and halfway through eating I saw a fly crawling out of it (black dot in the photo). I'm absolutely certain it was from the store as we never have these specific types of flies in our home. Felt disgusted afterwards.
Also I'm not a fan of their customer service. I'm pretty sure they used to have better staff.
Overall, it's the sum of all these experiences that paints a rather bad picture, at least for this...
Read moreFarm Boy is kinda the Canadian version of Trader Joe's. The prices are higher but so is the quality. Best thing to buy here is the Farm Boy house brand items which are generally of excellent quality. Produce tends to be better than other grocery stores and are priced to reflect that....but with so many farms and market's in town I find I rarely buy my produce there.
The Waterloo location is small for a Farm Boy and had noticeably less variety particularly in is quick grab food items and hot table which is why I often go to Farm Boy. Their bakery is quite good and is of comparable price but much higher quality than Loblaws or Zehrs. I particularly recommend their cruffies...halfway between a croissant and donut. The lemon curd ones are my favorite.
I find Farm Boy is a place I pick up particular items once a month or so but does not carry a full variety of items I need to do weekly shopping here. They are also very environmentally conscious and do not offer plastic bags,...
