Highly Disappointing and Discriminatory Experience
I had a deeply disappointing experience at this restaurant when I visited with my elderly mother. From the moment we entered, we noticed an unwelcoming atmosphere, which was disheartening, especially in a country as multicultural as Canada.
After a long wait, we were finally seated and ready to place our order. A server initially confirmed the availability of the dishes we wanted and assured us they could prepare them. However, shortly after, another server abruptly came over and told us the dishes were unavailable. When we asked why the first server had confirmed otherwise, the second server dismissed them, claiming they didn’t know anything. This inconsistency was frustrating and unprofessional.
We then asked about alternative dishes from the menu, but the server denied us again, stating they couldn’t take any orders. To make matters worse, they didn’t recommend any available options, even though the restaurant was running and serving other customers. It felt as though they simply didn’t want to serve us.
What made this experience even more distressing was that my mother is very old, and it’s not easy for her to move around or wait for long periods. Yet, there was no effort made to accommodate or assist us. The staff showed a complete lack of empathy, and their behavior was far from what one would expect in a high-end restaurant.
Given that we were the only people of color present, it strongly felt like we were being discriminated against. It’s deeply disappointing that such behavior exists in Canada, a country known for its diversity and inclusivity.
This experience was not just about poor service—it was about the blatant disregard for respect and fairness. A restaurant that treats its customers this way, especially elderly individuals, does not deserve to operate. I hope others don’t have to go through what we experienced, and I urge the management to reflect on their staff’s...
Read moreLate post of Whistler trip. Definitely a much different vibe in the summer.
You will need to purchase ticket for the gondola ride from the base of Blackcomb in addition to your dining experience. You can make a day out of it by purchasing the Summer Alpine Experience which not only gives you the gondola ride up Blackcomb but also gives you the Peak to Peak tram ride to Whistler Mountain then the gondola ride to the base of Whistler mountain in the village.
At the top we explored and enjoyed a simple lunch with picturesque views, it was a tad smoggy due to heat that day, but the stillness of the air, the muted colors of the landscape as there was no snow while the mountains cradled in mist watching gondolas up and down was nice.
Open for lunch in both summer and winter and located at the top of the Blackcomb Gondola in the Rendezvous Restaurant on Blackcomb Mountain, 1,860 meters up (6,102 feet).
We ordered a bottle of wine, the Sundried Heirloom Tomato Pappardelle and Roast Steelhead Bowl which all reasonably priced for the vibe and experience. They pride themselves using fresh local ingredients and comparable to Alpine the other dining options in the Village that changes alot more.
However, on this particular day felt unwelcoming. It wasn't the same expectation of service one usually receives, maybe server having a bad day as there was no smiling and M.I.A for...
Read moreEvery time we come to Whistler we go to Christine's and in the past we always had a fabulous time. This time however felt different. The food was fine but not great, especially for the price, and the service felt off, not fine dining.
We started we the crispy pork belly appetizer and that was the highlight of the meal, very good. I then had the duck confit (it was just ok, on the dry side), and my husband had the charred short rib (fine but nothing special and he didn't care for the side). We then shared the brownie for dessert (it was very dry and not great).
The service felt impersonal, pretentious, unwelcoming and robotic.. no one was smiling, it was honestly not pleasurable to be there, we just felt that they were trying to turn tables and collect your money.
During our stay in Whistler, we also ate at Steeps on the Whistler side twice and I can honestly say that our experience at Steeps far far surpassed the one at Christine's. The food at Steeps was sooo much better (hence why went twice), the servers were extremely friendly and made you feel welcome.
It's really a shame because we used to love going to Christine's. But next time we are in Whistler, we will stick to Steeps for a really nice meal on the slopes & avoid...
