Went with my cousin to give this new breakfast restaurant a try. First thing that turned me off is that the interior is EXACTLY the same as the last restaurant that was in there. Which was a fine dining restaurant. The decor and atmosphere worked when it was fine dining, lots of mirrors, dark and broody, wine bottles, glasses etc. The decor does not work for a breakfast restaurant. Could possibly work if it was a high end brunch restaurant that served nice cocktails etc, to accompany your meal. The name of the last restaurant is still written across the mirror on the back wall in large script, and in the bathroom there is a still a photo of the last owners hanging. The music playing was that of a spa, which was putting me to sleep in the dark interior.
Now on to the food, the menu is small, which I actually prefer, but there is nothing to make it stand out from any other breakfast place. Typical bacon and eggs, pancakes, omelettes, chicken caesar wrap, BLT etc. I ordered the Eggs Benedict, to which I asked if the hollandaise was house made or out of a package, for $17.95 I figured it should be home made. Server told me it was from a package. I had to request poached eggs as it comes with over easy eggs. My cousin ordered the same. My exact order was, Eggs Benedict, poached medium, regular bacon crispy and home fries well done. It took about 45 minutes to receive our meals, and there were only 4 other tables so it was not busy at all. The presentation was ok, first thing I noticed was that my cousins plate had 2 pieces of asparagus on top of the few pieces of fruit, I had no asparagus. The fruit consisted of an orange slice (that was obviously cut the day before, one piece of cantaloupe, one piece of honey dew, and one slice of strawberry (not the whole strawberry a slice) and that was it. My cousins eggs were poached hard even though we had both ordered medium. My homefries appeared to be well done, but upon trying them, they were floppy, I honestly think they are cooked not in the moment, but ahead of time and then warmed up. There were not the least bit crispy. They are also not cooked with oil or butter, but for sure some kind of cooking spray as they have a very chemical taste. The bacon is very poor quality and my cousin suggested it tasted very much like the smell of a wet dog, thin and I am guessing no name. It was definitely not...
Read moreEGG and YOLK. Not just a breakfast place. They serve lunch and dinner. And they are licensed to sell liquor. We went with my daughter and granddaughter there today for breakfast. Chef Kumar, who is the BEST prepared a great kids meal of three pancakes, Blueberry, strawberry and chocolate chip ones and this was also served with their famous home fries. My three year old granddaughter was delighted. I had the western omelet which was served with their home fries toast and fruit. The portion was huge. I brought home half. Chef Kumar treated us to his homemade chicken and rice soup and it was the bomb. He also prepared Sri Lankan mutton curry and it rocked along with their homemade hot sauce. Next time we're going there for dinner. Check out their website. The prices are very reasonable, service absolutely amazing and I can't say enough about Chef Kumar. He's the absolute best. Thank you again Egg and Yolk for another perfect dining experience.
Egg and Yolk. And yet another visit to Egg and Yolk. This was our fourth time visiting. Again the food was phenomenal. The chef there is great. I ordered a western sandwich which was not on their menu but the chef especially prepared it for me. It truly was the best western sandwich I've eaten. The chef Kumar, puts love into everything he cooks. He came over to our table and we had a lovely chat. I love Sri Lankan curry and he gave us a sample of it to take home. It is super delicious. This gem of a restaurant needs to be explored by all. You will not be disappointed. The service is above excellent as well as the food. Thank you Kumar for another wonderful meal and taking the time to get to know us. You truly are amazing. This was the best dining experience we've had in...
Read moreThis was a terrible experience. My friend and I took my sister for her first Mother's Day here and we got up and had to leave due to the poor service. We get there not very busy at all, the restaurant is not even half full. Once seated we proceeded to wait 25 minutes and no one came to the table, we asked someone walking by for some water, he said yes I will tell your waitress. Waited another 10 she comes over takes our order and we asked for water. I see her making my smoothie and then leaves it sitting in the blender for another 5 minutes. Still no water. We see her chatting with employees throughout the restaurant. The man who knew wanted water kept passing our table and avoided eye contact with us. We just wanted water, and he had a pitcher of water with him! My friend finally got up asked an older waitress who she was hoping was the manager for water. When she finally come to the table after 45 minutes of waiting she brings my smoothie one of the 2 coffees ordered and the water. My sister asked if the second coffee was coming and she was met with attitude as well as not a single sorry for the wait... FOR WATER. The smoothie was gross as it was sitting for awhile and was warm and the strawberry on it was very old. The coffee was burnt. So we left $5 and went to Starbucks. If it was actually busy in there I would have brushed it off as it is mother's day, however it was not busy. I would hate to go...
