Heads up.. it will be a long post! I've been wanting to post this for a while but having had inconsistent experiences from other establishments held me back so I decided that I'm going to give any new restaurant 3 chances for consistency in food quality and taste before I actually send fellow foodies their way. I'm happy to share that this review is well deserved for Via Delhi , the newest underdog in authentic Indian cuisine that has completely wowed my palette! TRY #1: We decided to order via Uber after an exhausting day at work where we just wanted some comfort food. We ordered the tandoori platter (boneless chicken cubes, seekh kabab and tandoori shrimp), Rara gosht (boneless chunks of meat and minced meat) and lamb biryani. I took a bite of the rara gosh and couldn't believe I was tasting this deliciousness in Canada. Last time I remember eating flavors this authentic was in India. I decided not to get too excited and mentally made a note to give them another shot when we dine in. The tandoori items were delicious and definitely one of my favorites. The biryani was alright, your typical Indian biryani full of flavor, however not the best I've had over the years. TRY #2: We decided to dine in with the kiddos one evening around 5:30 pm and noticed the place was empty. Always a nervous feeling but decided to give it the benefit of doubt that it's a new restaurant and way too early for many folks. We ordered tandoori chicken, Rogan Josh and mild butter chicken for the kids. Word of caution here that even their base sauce has spice so if you cannot tolerate ANY spice, I wouldn't get the butter chicken as it was NOT mild and my kiddos struggled to eat it. However it definitely tasted delicious and one of the better butter chickens out there ( John Higo another one on your list to try šŸ˜‰). The tandoori chicken is the one item I would NOT recommend here. As with many restaurants, this item is pre-cooked, and then over sprinkled with chaat masala, with no actual tandoori flavor so it tasted stale and dry. If you feel like eating BBQ/tandoori items, get the boneless ones as they are made fresh. However here comes redemption! One bite of the Rogan Josh yet again transported me mentally to India and I couldn't stop eating it, which was such a pleasant surprise! We left very content that the food had flavors authentic to what we knew in India and decided we will definitely give them another try. TRY #3: Yesterday hubby was craving Indian food and I suggested we try his favorite item, bhuna gosht from Via Delhi. We also ordered a chicken biryani with it. The chicken biryani was ok and if I had to order biryani next time, I'd probably stick to the lamb biryani instead as chicken just didn't hit the spot. However, I honestly, I cannot decide which of the 3 curries I've tried so far are my #1, because they've all been delicious but based on the most recent experience, I'd say bhuna gosht is the winner. Yes I'm going to repeat myself but I swear this is not an exaggeration when I say that one bite of the bhuna took me down nostalgia lane and in that moment, I was just so thankful that I've found a place with authentic Indian flavors I've been craving for a really long time, in our own backyard AND that exceeds Chulha and Balti (which is huge for me!). Trust me when I say that Via Delhi has the most authentic Indian flavors you'd find in Mumbai & Delhi.

Via Delhi is a new restaurant in Whitby, serving Indian cuisine in a fine dining setting. I had the pleasure of dining there recently and found it to be a wonderful experience, with really good food and service. They have lots of choices on their menu, including appetizers, salads tandoori dishes, chicken, seafood, lamb, vegetarian, biryani, and even Hakka Chinese dishes, and more. The meal started with a complimentary Papad with Mint Chutney that just whet my appetite. That was soon followed by Tikki Hari Bhari, fresh spinach, lentil and cottage cheese kebab, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. This was served with Mint Chutney and Tamarind Chutney. Very tasty! Next, was Paneer Tikka Tandoori - paneer, bell peppers and tomato, chargrilled in the tandoor. This arrived sizzling on a hot plate, another winning dish! The main course was Rara Gosht, a lamb dish slow cooked with tomatoes, ginger, and spices. It had a really nice flavour with tender pieces of meat. Garlic Naan was perfect for soaking up all the delicious flavour. To finish this delicious meal, I had their Gulab Jamun with ice cream. It was a good ending to an excellent meal. Every bite was a flavourful treat, packed with flavour without being over seasoned. It was just right. The service was outstanding! If you like Indian cuisine, you'll love Via Delhi. Check them out in Whitby, on Brock St, south of Dundas.

We went to Via Delhi for dinner with very high hopes after reading the great reviews but were left disappointed with our overall experience. We ordered the Kebab Platter, Lamb bhuna and bread basket. The Kebab platter arrived first, and most the Kebabs were void of any flavor. The Shrimps were very good but all the chicken kebabs lacked flavor, and were very dry inside. When the Kebab platter arrived, I immediately asked for the bread basket as I like to have some bread with my kebabs. Unfortunately the breads arrived after 30 minutes with the Lamb bhuna. We literally were so disappointed at this time that the excitement of having the food were all gone. The lamb bhuna tasted nice. Our server was very generous and kept asking about the food and all and also provided a 50% discount on the Kebab platter as we didn't like it, but then the overall experience was not good and I am not returning here for sure.

Food was great. I really enjoyed our meal. Our server was so kind. I did notice in one of the dishes they didn’t remove the bay leaves and it was something that was quite concerning. A child ingesting that would be my concern. The butter chicken was outstanding.

The interior is quite nice visually. I’d say they should consider air fresheners perhaps as the smell inside was quite stale. The restaurant dining room shouldn’t smell like the kitchen.

It was also dead quiet inside. No music playing in the restaurant. I asked the server why it was so quiet (like library quiet), and she said the owner has control over the speaker for music only but they were not there at the time. So every conversation from the 2 other tables that were being used could be heard throughout the restaurant. Just kind of hurt the atmosphere for dine-in. Something they should consider for future! Restaurants are 60 percent food and 40 percent atmosphere so it’s still really important. I thought about the nicer, high end Indian restaurants in Toronto such as ā€œThe Host Fine Indian Cuisineā€, which we love going to, and they don’t have these issues. Something...
