Magic sushi has been a place I have frequently gone to for years but what happened today during my experience at the restaurant has completely changed my view on the entire business. Yes, their sushi is very reasonably priced and you get what you pay for; that is something that anyone who goes here can agree on. The service is typically subpar, not the worst, but little communication yet your food is still brought out fairly quickly.
Today, I was yelled at and embarrassed by the lady with the short hair and tattooed arms. After claiming that our order was too long, she split it in two (which was no issue to myself and my friend, we understood they were busy and would rather get out food out quicker in smaller portions) and brought out our food as per usual. But keep in mind that there were only 2 of us sitting at this table yet there were many larger tables with larger orders as well.
By the second "round" of food we realized that there were a couple appetizers and rolls that we would like to have (quite literally an order of 4 different things) and so, we write the order and place it on the table so that one of the waitresses could come by and pick up our order. The lady with the short hair walked by a handful of times, looked down at our order and completely disregarded it. Another waitress walked by and picked up our order, started to walk away and then the short haired lady yelled at her from across the restaurant telling her to not pick up the order, so the waitress brought it back, set it down on the table and did not explain what was going on.
We waited about 10 more minutes after that, of the short haired lady walking by, not picking up our order, clearing our table and completely ignoring the fact that the sheet of paper had been there for awhile so I thought maybe she was too busy to punch in the order, i walked up to the cash register and hear a voice yelling "excuse me" from across the restaurant, I didnt turn at first as I didn't think she was calling me, the voice got louder and louder till I finally turned around and there the short haired lady is, telling me to "SIT DOWN" and that I'm "not allowed to place my order" because of a limit of 2 orders per table (which is not written anywhere) yet we only placed one order that she decided to split herself.
This experience has me in complete disgust as I have never been treated with such disrespect by anyone especially in any restaurant i've been to. I paid the bill and left as i was not going to continue to be personally victimized by this lady any longer.
I will no longer be coming to this restaurant and neither will any of my...
Read moreA friend recommended this place as it's the only one he's been to since arriving in Winnipeg. While it's not bad, the all-you-can-eat model for sushi certainly dooms the food to mediocrity. Most rolls tasted alike and it was difficult to differentiate between the fish placed on top of the rolls (aside from eel, which has an earthy taste). Tempura also seemed equally bland, but at least the oil was fresh. Enjoyed the rolls with Sriracha sauce on them (mostly because they had a distinct flavor to them). Their take in a sunomono salad was certainly memorable, as it had romaine lettuce, Japanese mayo and panko flakes on top. Unfortunately, the extra salad was the only flavorful part; the noodles seemed to lack the sweet/sour/lemony flavor that's customary of a standard sunomono salad. The service was certainly decent as our table of four received our first order of about ten rolls in about five minutes after one of the servers picked up the order slip. There were no errors, either. Decor was certainly hole-in-the-wall (if you were dubious from its exterior looks, it's somewhat better inside). The large tv had a restaurant channel depicting some of the dishes while J and K-pop music videos played in the corner. For $14.50 after tax, it's a decent place to go for sushi if you're starving and need to shovel down as much as possible; live nearby; want to try a large variety of rolls; or have a limited experience with Japanese food. You could spend $4 more and get green tea and access to their nigiri menu items, but there's no point. If you're not looking for all-you-can-eat nonsense, I'm sure you will find better options out there in Winnipeg. In terms of all-you-can-eat - as I've described above - this place is...
Read moreNo star. The food tasted good but the staff wasnât friendly. It makes me laugh that they have âdown- to- earthâ as their description. Theyâre not welcoming at all. Most of all they charge you for things you didnât get. And the lady who probably own the place was so rude. She slammed the menu book in front of me and yelled âreadâ. All I did was ask why was she charging us for the things we didnât get. Very rude and she had the guts to tell me to shut up and I told her Iâm sorry but I was just asking and I asked nicely and if youâre gonna be rude then Iâm sorry Iâll give you attitude as well. Language barrier was my greatest issue she didnât understand that I was telling her that they didnât give us the things she was charging us for. She kept insisting that on the paper we ordered it and yes sheâs right but my point was we didnât get it so donât charge us for it. And also service was so slow. It took us 1 hour for the wait for the first thing we ordered. The place was also unsanitary the old guy cleaning the tables was disgusting. He touched the dirty cloth and helped out in the kitchen. He should also wipe his sweat it was dripping everywhere. Never coming back here again hope they close down for not being clean. Rats running from washroom area to the kitchen area as soon as we saw it we got up to paid and given...
