I’ve ventured into the Wood Tavern after attending a remembrance Day ceremony. I was hoping to find a place that I could have a decent breakfast. Thankfully, they were open, but we’re not serving alcohol until 1 PM. I sat down at the bar nonetheless because they had three big screen TVs right across from it. They do have an attached restaurant that has nice separated areas I imagine for group parties, etc. The dining room at the Norwood hotel was revamped a couple years ago, and I hadn’t been there since. I found the new look to be very inviting. And almost dare I say “ classy”. I ordered a regular two egg breakfast and a coffee. The server was very polite and efficient. The coffee was quite good. I would say somewhere between a Tim Hortons, coffee and a Starbucks coffee. (keeping in mind that this reviewer finds Starbucks coffee too strong). The breakfast portion was very generous. Four pieces of bacon (cooked as requested) two slices of well buttered toast(a pet peeve of mine is people that just smear the middle of the toast with butter. These were done as if the person making them was going to be eating them. It matters ). The eggs were cooked nicely. And the rather generous portion of hashbrowns were seasoned to perfection. All in, a very good breakfast . The server was right on top of things, but not overbearing. She refilled my coffee and brought extra cream without being asked. The only very slight issue I had was getting the bill. It was getting fairly busy by the time I was ready to go and she was occupied with other guests. I will definitely be back if for no other reason than to sample the beer they have on tap. 20 taps in all, and I was told that one of them has sangria and the rest are drafts. I could easily see watching a game here and sampling a lot of their offerings. The breakfast was expensive, but in my view well worth it.

Many delicious flavors can be found here, but there was issues with the temperature of the food when served when we tried it. It's a very nice atmosphere to sit and eat in. Elegant yet casual. Smoked olives 3 stars I wasn't as impressed with these olives. There were ok, but not something I would order again. Lettuce wraps 4.25 stars The flavor on the sambal chicken was excellent. It was a little tough though. Campfire Cauliflower 4.5 stars This should be a 5 star item but it was served lukewarm. Duck fat poutine 4 stars Standard poutine. It was good but it didn't stand out for me . Braised beef brisket 4 stars I'm big into BBQ, but this was missing something for me. It made me think of the poutine. Chicken wings split into two sauces 4 stars? Bbq sauce was fantastic in flavor Lemon pepper they made for us even though it wasn't on the menu. The issue was it was lukewarm. Fish and chips 4 stars This was the one item served hot tonight. The portion size was huge. I would have preferred if the batter was a little crispier. The fries are not really salted, which is better than being over salted. Gingered pear 4 stars I loved the fact that have a small non alcoholic offering. The drink itself was fine, but not something I would order all the time. Service started off strong but our quality check never came during the apps and it came near the end of the meal. We had issues with the temperature of the food but we were starving and by the time she came back it was a mute point. The service itself was friendly and professional when there.

I went here for my birthday supper. First time visitor. Place was nice and cozy, the waiter was fantastic for having a table of 20 come in after we were sat down. Started off with beef carpaccio and the habanero honey flatbread. They were amazing!! However, the entrées were a big letdown. I had the rib and chicken combo with duck fat gravy poutine. The ribs were less than lukewarm, no char, no grill marks and covered in what seemed to be a sauce that you would have with cabbage rolls. I can't see how that's a bbq sauce, it wasn't smoky or had that wood fired taste you would expect. The apple slaw was plain, no taste, I gave it to my mother-in-law who had one bite and said the same. The chicken breast was the size of a nugget, no sauce , just an unappealing cardboard looking thing. The poutine was cold, not sure how that happens 🤔. I asked to have it heated and I'm sure it was zapped in the microwave for a minute and brought back. I brought the entree home for my father-in-law but again, the ribs were just awful, they hit the garbage pretty quick. My wife and mother-in-law entrees were mediocre and pretty good as I was told. The beef dip being the better. Drinks were great, service for most part was great, besides the half hour wait to get our bill. Would go back for the sharing plates but...
