Set against the picturesque Yarmouth waterfront, Rudder's Seafood Restaurant and Brew Pub unfolds as a maritime sanctuary for the palate. With the waterfront as its panoramic canvas, the pub unveils a mesmerizing harbor view—a captivating backdrop that accompanies each dining experience. The hospitality of the staff, coupled with their attentive service, paints a portrait of warmth and professionalism that harmonizes perfectly with the coastal ambiance. Their commitment to elevating the dining experience is palpable, creating a welcoming atmosphere that feels like a homecoming. My choice of the fried clams and chips, well done, was a revelation in culinary finesse. The dish was a symphony of flavors—each clam expertly prepared, bathed in the right balance of seasoning. This delectable ensemble of taste and texture danced on the taste buds, further elevated by the breathtaking waterfront panorama. While every bite was an affirmation of excellence, the portion size, albeit satisfying, left a fleeting desire for more—a minor quibble against the grander backdrop of the dining experience. In reflection, Rudder's Seafood Restaurant and Brew Pub is a voyage of the senses—a celebration of the sea's bounty and the camaraderie that comes with good food and welcoming service. While a heartier portion could have crowned the affair, it doesn't diminish the allure that this culinary haven exudes. In summation, my encounter with Rudder's Seafood Restaurant and Brew Pub encapsulates the soul of seaside indulgence. From the harbor view to the attentive staff, and culminating in a plate of culinary artistry, every facet resonates with excellence. A definite five-star experience, I eagerly anticipate charting my course back to this maritime sanctuary, where culinary dreams unfurl and set sail.

We are touring the maritimes...starting with Nova Scotia....drove the RV into Yarmouth and immediately felt the very cool 'vibe'. So much so that we decided to eat out (not a common event)..did the inevitable 'Net search and came up with Rudders. So...Rudders is a craft brewery that has a full menu...and outside seating with a fabulous view. No..we didn't...was a tad too cool...however, we more than made up for that with our dinners. Sharon ordered Lobster Mac n Cheese. Panco crust..and a healthy portion of lobster. 'We' thought is was great. It did not have a heavy cream sauce..applauded that. Not too rich that couldn't have dessert. I kinda went overboard...1st, two fresh oysters on the1/2 shell. Medium sized and yummy. Then the appie sized bowl of mussels in the Cajun sauce...served with garlic baguette. I only had such a wee bit of the bread....to top it off, I had an order of seafood crepes....loaded with lobster and scallops...and I ate one, saving the second for lunch. Sharon had the chocolate pate, for dessert...and loved it. Very rich and creamy. We really did enjoy the food. I like getting involved with my food...fingers, tongue and lips...it's not always pretty. My oysters and mussels satisfied that! The crepes were fork food...and all was delish!!

I got the hot creamed lobster roll, and it was delicious, though a little light on lobster compared to the cold one. I paid $5 extra to upgrade to seafood chowder as the side, and it was a huge disappointment. Water, milk, a ton of butter, potatoes and a bit of not-so-great fish. No other seafood. Adding crackers, salt and pepper made it edible but not super enjoyable. It was just really disappointing. When asked how everything was, I decided to be honest and say it was disappointing, and got treated to a bit of a lecture about how it's traditional here, and they don't serve 'mushy' chowder (?) like they do in other parts of the world. I have been to some places where they do believe chowders should be 'soupy' but those were also flavorful.....and had some seafood other than leftover fish in them. Thankfully most other seafood chowders I've had in NS have been FAR better.

We were on vacation for almost 3 weeks. When we went the first time at the start of our trip, the service and food was great. When we went back on our last night in Canada, it was terrible. We had carefully made a reservation, because we had to go fairly late (8:30pm) and wanted to make sure there wasn't any issues. We were able to get there a bit earlier at 8:00pm, but were asked to wait until our reservation time. No problem, we went for a walk around the waterfront and went back at 8:30pm.

And our poor experience began immediately. There wasn't a single part of the service that was even adequate and the food was ruined by this. That's the executive summary. A full description follows. Sorry about how long this part is.

Despite our reservation, we were seated next to the waiter prep area, probably the worst spot in the restaurant No one greeted us when we were seated. After 10 minutes we had to ask the reception guy for water. The water was less than five feet from us at the prep area. We finally saw a server walking by, and had to ask if he was our waiter. He still didn't come over to take our order, just told us yes, and how busy he was. He was slight in stature with short light brown hair, I didn't get his name.

When we finally were able to place our order, neither course arrived until after we asked for them after an extended delay.

At 9:30pm, we were still waiting for our salads. We wanted to go somewhere else, but our only choice at that point was McDonald's. Every other non-fast food restaurant closed at 10pm, and it was too late to get to them before their kitchens closed.

We waited about ten minutes to ask for the salads. We waited about 20 minutes after finishing our salads to ask for our entrees. Both the salad and the entrees arrived immediately after we finally asked for them. Because of where we were seated we could see how long each course waited to be picked up at the kitchen.

The food, which was great the first time, was ruined because of the time it sat waiting for for the waiter to pick it up. The salads were warm, and my husband's didn't have any dressing. We asked for it, and got a half-filled small cup.

After we ate our salads, we again had to call the waiter over, it was about 9:40 pm. I had to tell the waiter that I am a type one diabetic and that my blood sugar was dropping because the food never arrived. Again it appeared immediately thereafter. Sadly, it wasn't worth the wait. The cheese sauce in my seafood casserole had cooled down so much it was no longer melted and looked coddled. My husband's mixed seafood platter was prepared incorrectly. He got deep fried scallops and shrimp, not the pan saute he ordered. Plus, it was cool, rather than hot.

We had lost our appetites by that point. Since I had taken sugar tablets to prevent a dangerous blood sugar crash, I just put my uneaten dinner into a box to take back to our room. My husband choked some of his down. Then we paid and left.

This experience ruined our last night in Canada. The rest of the trip, all over Nova Scotia and Newfoundland, was amazing. And that's what...

We've been to this restaurant twice before and previously our experience has been good/okay, however last night that was not the case. While we recognize during this visit it was much busier than the last, it took 20 minutes before we even met our server or asked about drinks. Only after the 20 minute wait were we informed that food would take an hour after ordering, which we later decided was fine, since we were already established. Our server did not check up on us at all. She only asked if we wanted refills when taking the plates from the appetizer, then we were left for about 40minutes without any service. Eventually we got our servers attention for our second round of drinks but she left the empty glasses on the table which turned into a puddle since they sat there until the end of our meal. We ended up waiting over TWO hours for our food, and again after it was delivered we were not checked up on AT ALL. I wish we were so i could have told the staff my lobster mac and cheese was liquidy, felt like melted butter filled the bottom of the pan. My boyfriends "two pieces" of fish were equivalent to MAYBE one and a half, and it was bland with the batter being a bit soggy. Fries were 80% of that meal. So we waited 2 hours with no service (when we did have it she was short with us) for not even okay food. Cherry on top of this experience was waking up this morning with both me and my partner suffering from light food poisoning, with our only shared meal being from this restruant. One or a few of these things happening? I can understand sometimes things happen, sometimes servers have bad days, but, for all to happen in one visit? I had to write a review. I dont think the quality of the restaurant should depend on...
