Our family of 10 recently dined at Rum Point in Grand Cayman, and while the food and the beachfront atmosphere were absolutely spectacular, it was our server, Godwin, who truly made the experience stand out.
From the moment we arrived, Godwin greeted us with the warmest welcome, instantly making us feel at home. One of our family members has celiac disease, and Godwin handled their dietary needs with the utmost care and attention. He was not only knowledgeable about gluten-free options but also went above and beyond to ensure that every item was safely prepared and served without any risk of cross-contamination. His attentiveness gave our family member complete peace of mind, which is something we deeply appreciated.
Godwin was incredibly friendly, professional, and engaging throughout the meal. He offered fantastic recommendations for both food and drinks, and his genuine enthusiasm for his work really shone through. He anticipated our needs, kept everything running smoothly, and always made sure everyone at the table felt taken care of.
The entire evening was a joy, from the stunning setting to the delicious cuisine, but it was Godwin’s outstanding customer service that truly set this place apart. He’s the kind of person who turns a great meal into a lasting memory. We left with full hearts (and full stomachs), already talking about how we can’t wait to return.
If you’re visiting Rum Point, do yourself a favor and ask for Godwin....
Read moreMy partner and I are Caymanian. It is very sad and disappointing to see what Rum Point has become. We visited two days in a row and both times experienced some of the worst service on island. My partner waited at the bar for at least 15 minutes each day to be served (with the bar being less than half full), the second day of which he was not even served.
The first day, he ordered a mudslide - this was the worst mudslide/cocktail we have tasted on island (tasted like watered down rum). It was made by someone who said she had only been working there for 4 months, so we put the bad drink down to this. As the beach was quiet, we decided to go back the next day to give it another chance.
On the second day, there were 4 available bartenders who constantly ignored him despite not being busy serving other customers. After about 10 minutes, two other customers walked up to the bar a few feet away from him and all 4 bartenders attempted to approach to serve them. Even after some of the bartenders were not serving them, he was still ignored.
My partner is a person of colour, and sadly we can only assume that this was the reason for him being ignored for service both days. This experience has left us with the overwhelming impression that Rum Point has become yet another establishment that is intent on...
Read moreWe ate here on a day that our boat tour dropped us off for lunch. I probably wouldn't have chosen to eat here unless I was at Rum point and hungry. The atmosphere is nice. It's a very casual dining place with colorful picnic tables right on the beach. You really can't beat that for eating out. The service was quite slow, though. Maybe they just get inundated with people at certain times but we only had a few families on our tour so it seemed like a pretty normal flow of people. It took over 20 minutes for a waiter to come and order our food and it wasn't much faster getting food out to our table. Closing out our check did go a bit more quickly, though, to be fair. The food wasn't much to write home about. It's a pretty simple menu and the tastes matched that. The menu describes their food like it is going to be full of Cayman flavors but when you get the food, it tastes like they don't even know what salt and pepper are. It's pretty bland and unexciting. I definitely don't plan to eat here again. Even if I went on a tour that brought me to lunch at Rum Point again,I'd just eat before coming or bring a sandwich with me. With the prices they charge, you're much better off just waiting and eating at so many of the other good restaurants...
