Casino Espanol — Restaurant in Iquique

A little bit of history from the cafe... With more than 115 years of tradition, the Sociedad Recreativa Casino Español and its famous building have earned the affection, prestige and appreciation of the city of Iquique. The history of the club began with the "Estudiantina Española", a group of enthusiastic young Spaniards who met to preserve their roots and promote camaraderie, having as their meeting place the second floor of the current headquarters of the Fire Company No. 1. This group was consolidated and changed its name to "Sociedad Recreativa Casino Español" in 1892. Ten years later, in 1902, with the considerable increase in its members, the Society decided to acquire land to build its main building, today the emblematic Casino Español, installed in a typical area of the city and built entirely of wood by the Architect Miguel Retornano and completed with a dome designed by the Architect Hurt Burchol, and painted by the Iquique painter Sixto Rojas. The interior of the building is richly decorated, recalling the Alhambra in Granada and the Royal Alcazares of Seville. It has beautiful paintings by renowned Spanish artists such as Ramón Palmerola who painted portraits of women and Antonio Tordesillas, which left behind allegorical oil paintings of Don Quixote. The Chilean Sixto Rojas painted large-scale paintings such as The Surrender of Granada and the Landing of Columbus in America, among others. Lo primero comentar soy española (valenciana) desgraciadamente mi experiencia ha sido bastante nefasta. Quiero resaltar, en la carta algunos platos supuestamente llevan determinados ingredientes que cuando lo sirven resulta que no lo llevan, por ejemplo, pedimos unas tostas de jamón serrano con tomate, supuestamente llevaban allioli y el allioli no estaba en ninguna parte! Luego las bebidas estaban aguadas, es decir, no tenían ningún gusto, estaban desabridas. Pedimos un menú para niños, en el cúal en ninguna parte de la carta en la descripción aparecía que el pollo llevase pimienta, eso es un tema que deberían de mirar y poner los alérgenos en la carta, porque es un peligro, si cualquier persona, ya sea niño o adulto resulta ser alérgico. El chico que nos atendió fue muy agradable, de hecho comento que iba a pasar a cocina lo ocurrido para mejorar. Ahora bien, la persona responsable la verdad que fue bastante desagradable. Quiero explicar, lo primero que hizo fue comentarnos, si es que no queríamos pagar la cuenta… (eso sin comentarios), y posteriormente, le comentamos que la comida llevaba pimienta y puso en duda nuestra palabra… de hecho, yo invité a la señora a que probase la comida pero no quiso. Luego, comentar uno de los platos que ofrecían era “Paella Valenciana” que si ven la descripción, cualquier valenciano entenderá….podrán observar la paella valenciana.

Sólo como recomendación, si ofrecen un plato que no es originario del país que sea, por lo menos recomiendo que se informen ya que vas a comer, se supone, a un lugar profesional y que se llama Casino español, y que ofrezcan algo real, no que se engañe al cliente.

Lo único agradable ha sido el lugar, que está inspirado en nuestra bonita Andalucía.

Sorry to say this but this place was really terrible- the food was inedible and the service was very poor l. Waited to 30 mins for food (seafood soup) which was worse than instant seafood pot noodles. Refused to pay. The reaction on behalf of the establishment was not one of surprise.
