Modern China Restaurant (Hollywood Plaza) — Restaurant in Kowloon

We visited the Modern China restaurant at Hollywood Plaza 5 times during our 2 weeks stay in HK. We kept coming back because we really liked the Shanghai cuisine & we stayed at Galaxia (just above the shopping centre). We particularly fancied the "steamed Xialongbao" as they were always juicy, hot & yummy. (I always have to finish all 8 pieces by myself!) Their pork & chicken wonton, spare ribs noodles soup, Beijing dumplings, the sweet & sour fish...etc. were all fingers lickingly delicious! The only dish I don't like was the "pan-fried buns" as the layers of the buns were too thick. The services were always great. On many occasions, staff were helpful, friendly & made us feel welcome! Except for a time when we encountered a new staff that apparently, she was very pushy, aggressive, rude, greedy, challenging & kept on bothering us during the meal. She also insulted us when we didn't order the (expensive) dishes that she recommended & said she had never seen anyone who ordered so little (dishes) at this restaurant. (There were 3 of us & we ordered 6 dishes, even though she managed to miss out 2 of the 6 dishes on our orders!) Fortunately, we had only seen her once during our 5 visits - which I guess she might got the sack due to her horrific customers service. The price was generally OK, it's a bit more expensive than the "Xia Mian Guan" downstairs but the food & the services...

It used to be a famous xiao long bao restaurant and juicy inside with soft meat. It’s a total disappointment and completely opposite of what they were.

Meat is so hard and very little juice side. The best dish is the deep fried bun and i could make at home.

There’s a mandatory appetizer charge $22 per table. I guess we were lucky to get chicken in wine and i saw next table got pickles.

The meal is way too expensive and not worth at all.

Service is still good but food is not...

Good food, good tea and good service, but the change to QR Code menu and ordering is a big disadvantage especially for elderly customers who doesn't know how to operate. This kind of self service has to be stopped for all full service restaurants, otherwise please stop charging tje 10%...
