Food Lab Bistro + Cafe — Restaurant in Sha Tin District

Food Lab has been around for a while, they used to be on Caine Road and at Fanling but Fanling was too far so I never made it.Finally tried this place over Easter when I made a trip to see the golden egg at Science Park.

Went here for dinner after taking a stroll on the promenade.

As a tea lover, I had the Earl Grey and the green tea.

They serve organic teas by Natures cuppa.

My friend had the cola.

Started with the beef consomme with ravioli and the vegetable soup with chickpeas.

The consomme was light with a strong unami taste while the vegetable soup was tangy and rich.

The Spicy Quesadilla was a surprise because it turned out to be curry and cheese filling which is quite different to the usual fillings like chili beef.

The curry flavouring and cheese were both quite light so the two went quite well together.

For the mains, had the pan fried Dover Sole which is one of my favourite fishes but they are rarely served in Hong Kong.

I love this fish which is found everywhere in the UK.

Although it came with a delicious lime mayonnaise, I just had it with some salt which was fantastic.

Finished the meal with some great desserts!!!

The pancake with fresh strawberries and whipped cream was sensational because it wasn't too sweet and the fresh cream was silky and delicious.

The apple poached in white wine was really comforting and healthy presented in a really nice way so I was really glad I ordered it as you rarely find whole poached apples!!

Also tried the lychee vinegar that was recommended to us, it had a soothing aftertaste.

As well as lychee vinegar, they also sell a good variety of wines like tomato aperitifs and strawberry cream.

I can't wait to try this place again if I am in the area because the brunch menu and weekend...

Wonderful value for money!!

I visited Foodlab with my family for Christmas dinner. They had a 4-course set dinner for only $428.

I chose a shrimp avocado salad, mushroom soup, rib eye steak with foie gras and bread pudding. I could never get this much of good food for this price elsewhere.

I have to say the quality of food and presentation have improved drastically since my last visit a year ago! 😍 surprise to see full house on a non-working day.

They need to go back to the food lab. Tastes were strange, the clay pot rice had Indian spices and the basics like pizza were done poorly. They also list themselves as having all-day breakfast but that isn’t actually on the menu.

Service was like a dai pai dong, loud and lots of scolding staff publicly.
