I recently visited [vedas restaurant shanghai], having heard great things about its atmosphere and cuisine. The food itself wasnt quite good, and the ambiance was initially pleasant and lively. However, my dining experience was soured by an incredibly unprofessional display by the staff and, what appeared to be, the owner. From my table, I could hear a member of the staff and the owner openly and loudly criticizing me for being a south indian. They were making disparaging remarks about the customer's choice of food and laughing calling us things in Hindi, their demeanor. The comments were not only rude but also completely out of line. It created a deeply uncomfortable and awkward environment for everyone in my family, as their laughs carried across the room. A restaurant's reputation is built not just on the quality of its food but on the respect and professionalism of its staff. Witnessing such disrespect for a paying customer was shocking and truly disappointing. I will not be returning, and I cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone who is south Indian who values self respect and free of such a toxic and racist atmosphere. And a word to the owner we from south India are completely eligible and more than qualified for any restaurant in the world I hope you experience what you called culture and etiquette from us south indians be a...
Read moreGreat Indian food in Puxi district! Vedas - good food in an interesting location. Make reservations. Take the elevator, not the stairs down the side alley.
My family decided to look for some Indian cuisine and we chose Vedas in Puxi(old French Concession). We found the building easy enough but followed one sign that led us and two locals down a side alley and up the stairs. We missed the elevator since you have to go into what looks like a office building entrance.
We were greeted by the owner and friendly staff and seated near the window and a good view of the kitchen viewing area, great for watching the chefs at work.
We ordered: Samosa for appetizers Nilgiri Chicken(Curry) Jeera Aloo
The Jeera Aloo was great, but I was expecting more flavor from the curry at first. My fault as I had thought Thai flavor when ordering. Both were still great as were the Samosas and the naan bread with butter and garlic.

Read moreVedas restaurant is in heart of shanghai city and one of the best Indian food we had during our stay in shanghai. We ordered various meals and all were cooked pretty well. Restaurant ambience is ok and they have kept it slightly dark but nothing to complain. The staff was found not very welcoming. The prices were in higher side and maybe the staff had a feel that we may not have dinner after seeing the menu. Anyway the restaurant was almost empty when we r tired so the best they could have done is welcome the guests and arrange seats as per our choice. We were in shanghai for almost 2 months but didn’t go back to this restaurant because of staff behaviour. But for someone looking for best Indian food in shanghai, give this...
