La Cava Guatava — Restaurant in Cundinamarca

Order took 55 minutes to arrive. Unacceptable. When the meal arrived we were told the 55 minute delay was due to a kitchen problem. during those 55 minutes no one came to the table to explain the delay despite there being more staff than customers at the restaurant at that time. There was only one other table occupied outside & the interior was empty. I’d hate to see what happens on a busy day.

We ordered a piece of chicken with bechamel sauce (ok, not great) with mashed potatoes (very dry without any sauce) & my guest a steak with mushroom sauce (ok) with plain spaghetti (no sauce & overcooked w flakes of parsley).

At a good restaurant, if there was a delay of such magnitude the manager would have kept us informed, offered drinks or an appetizer to compensate for the delay. Despite the large staff, no one came to explain the delay or offer an apology. When we ordered we were told the order would arrive in 20 minutes; not 55.

Finally, the restaurant is VERY expensive in terms of prices at comparable restaurants in the outskirts of Bogota. The meals were just average. The prices are high; the portions just average.

Stumbled upon this gem while visiting Guatavita, a small town about an hour and a half from Bogotá. I wasn’t expecting to find standout restaurants here, but La Cava Guatava proved me wrong. We came in with zero expectations, although from the photos on Google Maps it already looked like the best option in town.

The menu really surprised me. It offers a mix of creative house specials and traditional Colombian dishes with a unique twist that makes you want to try everything. I had the Arroz Caldoso and now I’m going to have a hard time finding anything that compares elsewhere given its authentic twist and unique flavor. I wish I had another day just to come back and try more dishes.

We paired the food with a cherry cognac, which was surprisingly good, and also had their hot wine and patatas bravas on the side. Everything was spot on.

The Best place I've ever been to, excellent music, great familiar environment and I'm not short saying that the service and food are made with the best dedication possible, therefore more is more than fantastic.2021.

I return this year 2022, to this place and now I must say is one of my favorite places to go to and have a really nice food. Really smooth environment, the food is really a gastronomic experience with different new combinations. Must say chocolate cake is really good.

Returned this year 2023 and this place still has its magic, their owners are really warm and welcoming people, their team and service always pretty good and you feel it’s a nice family place where you could enjoy and spend a really nice time with a really good food.
