Casa Coraje means something like "Courage House". May be because the house and the entire place directly face the brave Caribean Sea.
It is located right in front of the beach, and the location is beautiful (palm trees and loungers make it very relaxing) everytime you look towards the sea, because if you do it in the opposite direction you will find a not-so-nice backdoors.
My main point nonetheless is the cost: I have paid almost 150 U$ in the past for places WAY better and MORE comfortable than Casa Coraje. Let's start with the rooms: although they are nice, you feel like you are in a hostel: a chic one, but a hostel in any case. I know, it is Palomino. OK, but 2 nights are almost 1 million colombian pesos for a couple on an ordinary weekend!
On the other hand, there is a FATAL lack of communication with the guests. When we arrived in Santa Marta (Not before!), they told us that they were performing some "infrastructure improvements" and there could be some noise during the day. Why didn´t they tell us that in advance? Haven't they learned that if you go all the way to Palomino, you would like to enjoy of the sound of the sea waves, and not the sound of a chainsaw? That was UNBELIEVABLE, specially coming from a hotel. That was the most UNPROFESSIONAL thing we have ever heard from a hotel. We did not cacelled the reservation because we did not know any better option in the surroundings.
Nonetheless, once we get there things got solved: there were not "infrastructure improvements" during the weekend, a decision they took in order to respect our desire to relax. But I am afraid it happened not because of the power of reason, but because we were very UPSET. And don't miss what comes next: the most special guest they had at the hotel during that weekend was a colombian actress, an influencer they specially brought from Bogotá in order to tell everybody about the hotel and what to do in Palomino, and it was like they did not care about setting up a calm environment for them!
The best experience we had there was in and with the hotel restaurant: Paula & Darío run a very sofisticated vegetarian restaurant, with high quality food, local products, and a warm attention. Their breakfasts and dinners were capable of making us forget the previous story!
In summary: I suggest the restaurant, but not the hotel. I am sure you can get better quality price ratio places to stay...
Read moreCasa Coraje has a lot of potential but also a lot of work to do. A small overview of our 3 nights stay. We arrived at the reception, and while we fully prepaid the room, the girl behind the desk wanted to let us pay again, if we wouldnt have checked, we would have paid again. - train staff better.
We checked in and were finally installed to rest when a dj started playing really loudly. Music is always on in the afternoon, until 21.30. The volumes changes by the mood of the team, which is a shame for a nice and quite place to relax. Then the staff came to us to ask for our roomkey in order to duplicate it, this would take max 20 min but took over an hour, leaving us unaible to our room and belongings. - check and fix this in advance.
The beds on the beach and relaxing area were sticky and dirty and so are the cushions. The tables and seats of the restaurant were mainly sticky aswell and left one of our outfits with fish sauce smell. They have enough capacity to make sure this doesn’t happen. The menu’s look old and dirty aswell, all of this doesn’t add up with the prices of the restaurant. And the staff doesn’t understand the concerns. We stayed there during the weekend also when the owners were there to attend the hotel and things and the team all of a sudden started working more organised, and everything was arranged and cleaned more thoroughly.
But I want to leave this on a positive note, the food was good, the location very nice and the room clean with very nice outdoor shower. We had the Paz room, close to the sea.
Good luck with the improvements and better living up to the standards of the requested price for hotel and food and in general hospitality training...
