Stayed here in a private room. The room itself was rustic but nice. It had a comfortable double bed with a desk fan tied to the top to make it a ceiling fan. It was very hot in the room during the day. There was only 1 toilet (without a flush so you had to use a bucket), 1 sink and 2 showers for everyone from the private rooms and dorms to share so they were constantly dirty. Someone threw up in the sink and even though someone eventually rinsed it, it wasn’t properly cleaned. The whole place is just dirty and I felt very uncomfortable there. The staff is nice and the bar is ok, cocktails are good and the burgers are too. There’s live music and salsa classes some evenings. It smells like a dirty pub but then again, it’s a bar so wasn’t expecting much there but thought the hygiene in the rooms and other amenities away from the bar would be better. I would not recommend and do not plan on staying there again, although I’d visit the bar if I was in the area.

Been meaning to leave this review for some time now. What an epic memory this was for my partner and I! Besides the how cool, unique, and friendly this hostel was, we had a blast of a night and it all started with the bartender Emanuel! On our travels we always joked about getting matching tattoos but are broke travelers so never wanted to drop the coin. This dude told us if we get the maria mulata hostel logo as a tattoo, not only would it be free but we would get a free drink deal for 24 hours, so obviously we had to take him up on that offer! We had so much fun, made a ton of new friends there and even convinced some other salty American lads to get the tattoo after us! This place is just one big ball of good vibes and the best place to party by the beach before or after your trip in to tayrona national park (although I would suggest after). Thanks Maria mulata. I shall remember that night for the rest of my life!

I booked a room in this place because it was the cheapest in town. I didn't expect it to be such a party hostel. The weekend I was there, there were parties going on until 2 am. Sleeping in a dorm close to the speaker, made it hard to have a proper rest. The restaurant is decently priced and can offer something for everyone. The drinks at the bar are good. It's main plus point is being so close to the beach. If you're looking for a quieter base to explore the lively neighborhood from, pick something else. If you want to be in the heart of the tourist party center, look no further!

Nestled in the heart of Palomino, La Guajira, lies a hidden gem that embodies the essence of relaxation, fun, and community: Maria Mulata. From the moment you step foot into this tropical haven, you're transported to a world where worries fade away and good times abound.

The ambiance of Maria Mulata is simply captivating. Surrounded by lush greenery and swaying palm trees, the open-air setting creates an inviting atmosphere that beckons you to unwind and soak in the laid-back vibes of the Caribbean coast. Whether you're lounging in one of the cozy hammocks or mingling with fellow travelers at the rustic wooden bar, every corner of this establishment exudes warmth and charm.

But it's not just the ambiance that sets Maria Mulata apart—it's the impeccable service and tantalizing drinks that truly elevate the experience. The friendly staff members are more than just bartenders; they're masters of mixology, concocting signature cocktails that are as refreshing as they are inventive. From classic mojitos infused with locally sourced mint to exotic fruit punches bursting with tropical flavors, each sip is a tantalizing journey for the taste buds.

And let's not forget about the food. The menu at Maria Mulata is a celebration of Colombian cuisine, showcasing a mouthwatering array of dishes crafted from fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Whether you're craving traditional...

TOURISTS BEWARE!!!

This is a tourist trap where they try everything they can to get your drunk and spend more money (their prices are already ridiculous).

This place lured us in with a happy hour “deal” for buy one get one free burger. When I asked what the price was the gentlemen told me $40,000 but on the check it was 49,000.

For happy hour you can spend double the price for a triple size drink…but really it’s a ridiculous size to drink and the normal priced drink is insanely small, as if for a child.

We ordered two non-alcoholic drinks which did not arrive until long AFTER an alcoholic drink that we ordered at least 15 min after the two non-alcoholic. I also observed a couple sitting next to me ask for the check and instead the waiter brought a LARGE, STRONG cocktail “on the house”. This feels like they just want you drunk and will do anything to keep you in the restaurant.

When we first arrived, the waitress was very friendly, calling us “amor”. And the end of the dinner when we had only ordered one small alcoholic her energy felt very annoyed and impatient with us.

It feels like this place has no integrity or ethics.

I will be avoiding this place...

Maria Mulata is a magical place. We booked a place to sleep for three nights but after the first night it was clear that we would have to extend our stay.

When we arrived we were given a very warm welcome. The staff were super friendly the whole time and they are just really cool people.

The bar always plays great music and in the evenings there is always a party and you meet fun people.

And despite the evening party, it is quite quiet at the sleeping areas. The property is beautifully decorated, it is very green and there are many places to chill out.

You will find many animals on the property: parrots, an owl, cats and iguanas.

The food in the restaurant is incredible, a huge selection of different burgers and each one was incredibly tasty but the other dishes are also outstanding.

The cocktails are huge and very good!!!

The place is just a stone's throw away from the beach.

I would recommend anyone who comes to stay for at least a week - you will definitely...
