BK - BURUKUKA Restaurante Bar / Sunset Spot Santa Marta — Restaurant in Santa Marta

BK has been by far one of the worse dining experience my and my partner ever had. We were recommended by the taxi driver as one of the best restaurant of Santa Marta. It is technically in Rodadero which is a little upper class area on the outskirt of Santa Marta. The restaurant is at the top of the hill in a gated area. Without doubt the view is nice but nothing better that what you get in Taganga or minca. Just nice skyline of few condos in the bay area of rodadero.

Now the location and the dimmed light on the outside may trigger you to believe you’ll have a fine dining experience. Well forget about you. On three levels the restaurant fails to deliver the promise of gastronomic experience leaving you with just the disappointment of a mediocre experience.

Service is non existent. We were not even greeted just put on hold on a waiting list for 20minutes while the waiting staff all stressed and grumpy women were running like headless chicken around. It felt that the only people deserving of service were the local elite who were having a private party. There were people also who were greeted by the owners or a manager who could not bother to provide equal quality service to the long queue of couples and families.

At 9:40 they were letting people in while putting pressure on making the order since the kitchen closed at 10. We ordered a mojito which tasted good and a margarita which was horrible and just frozen ice with lime and it took 26 minutes to arrive. By the time which we just left since it was impossible to be served at all. We also noticed we and other people were not seated in the inside restaurant but on the outdoor where the whole infrastructure seemed very cheap and dirty. The bathroom with his saloon door was just messy and it looked dirtier than public ones.

It is a shame we wasted our time there and we highly recommend people who look for real gastronomic experience to go to the zona rosa and look for better alternatives who will not spoil your holiday.

Avoid...

So much potential but falls flat.. We stopped by for some sunset beers, drinks and dinner..we left early without eating, very disappointed.

It is no secret BK has spectacular views of the ocean, city and sunsets.

They have an extremely limited beer and drink selection. The bar is beautifully decorated with many fancy bottles of whisky and spirits. I requested a few basic drinks using the spirits they have on display but I was told they could not make the drinks. Confused I went to the bartender and asked for a whisky they had on display and was told they couldn’t serve it to me because it was just water inside the bottle. I inquired about other whiskies they “have” and was told they were all just water and for display only! 😳

They only serve a few cheap bottles of whisky. The bartender was a little rude with me after our conversation of his spirit selection.

Upon discovery of the fraudulent display of spirits we decided to leave without eating dinner.

BK has so much potential to be one of the best bars in Santa Marta. Up on a hill, with beautiful views, the location is incredible. If they had a plentiful selection of beers, wine and spirits accompanied by a good food menu this place would be amazing.

Instead they have poor beer and drink selection, a phony display of spirits and mediocre...

The restaurant is around 20 minutes from my hotel but it was worth it! It's on top of a mountain and you get to see the beach and the hotels and everything from the terrace. It's a great place to take pictures, I wouldn't recommend it for eating as the lights are quite dim. Inside, it's beautiful, a little dark but nothing a bright phone screen can't fix. Our waitress, Laura, was great. She told us what was good and told us jokes and was very attentive to what we needed. I ordered a lemonade when we sat down and it took a while for it to arrive but other than that, great service. I ordered the Filete de Salmón with puré de papas and vegetables. It was delicious. The salmon was well cooked and the potatoes were delicious, they had like some sort of cheese on top but amazing. When I finished my meal, Laura ordered a taxi for me and the rest of my party and she told us that they get here quickly but we were free to stay at our table until it gets here. The taxi got here but other guests wanted to take it but Laura held the door open and told them that this taxi was for us. She was our very own bodyguard. Definitely recommend this restaurant if Laura can be your waitress....
