Reggae Bar — Restaurant in Cahuita

If you want to enjoy a magnificent view with an adult beverage in hand -- go to the supermarket, buy said beverages, and walk onto the beach.

Most of the items we saw served (with exception of then red snapper) were not made with care, love, or quality ingredients. If you've ever seen those memes online showing how the food is supposed to look when cooked by a chef and how it actually turns out when an amateur attempts it -- that would be a fair description of the Reggae Bar in general. I'd put some of the items we had on par with what you might get in a gas station. That brings me to the shrimp they served. It was advertised as fresh. What we got was microwaved freezer section bag shrimp (an hour later). You know, those super tiny shrimp you want to act fancy, but not too fancy. I took one bite before abandoning my dinner. Really gross, not to mention completely dishonest. It's clear they don't care about the quality of food. Name of the game is turn and burn tourists. The cook/register manager was the opposite of nice -- mildly aggressive is a more apt description. It's clear she checked out a long time ago. The only thing this place has going for it is...

Overpriced food with poor customer service and ignorant staff...

We ordered 2 chicken curry with rice and fries ( with an English speaking waitress) , the restaurant had one other table occupied who were having drinks only so it wasn't exactly busy. The food took 35 minutes and when it arrived there was hardly any sauce on the plate, so we asked for more sauce. It took 20 minutes for the sauce to be brought to the table despite being told twice it's coming. The original sauce with the meal was superb and full of flavour the sauce that took 20 minutes to arrive, was bland & watery with uncooked vegetables which ruined the remainder of the meal. Throughout the meal no staff checked in on us or even apologised for the delay in the sauce when it was dropped off.

When we asked for the bill there was a 10% service charge included. When I queried this I was told it's compulsory, when I explained the above complaints my English speaking waitress all of a sudden could only speak Spanish. She then walked away from me with any further explanation.

Overall the experience was bad despite the original meal...

I went there during my trip in Cahuita with my brother. The only good thing was the place. The beach in front is very beautiful. The rest : we tried once to go to have a drink and seated : nobody came to bring menu, nothing just passing in front. Second time, we asked if they had ice cream a server pointed a place in the restaurant to check : no flavors were written. When he arrived we asked him the flavors, he said he didn’t know and was saying random. And ask about one particularly he said he couldn’t tell and hand a spoon with it to me so I could try : if I was allergic to something inside ? Either way. We took 2 spoons of ice cream and the taste was terrible. The hostel are recommending this place that’s unfortunate that the service...
