La Playa Coffee & Gelato — Restaurant in Cahuita

This place is absolutely incredible. I've had their passionfruit-mango gelato, banana-chocolate gelato, cappuccino-rum gelato, tamarind milkshake, and a chai latte. Everything I have tried has been phenomenal. The atmosphere is relaxing, like a dream, with the sound of the waves and the shade of the trees. If you are looking for a tranquil spot to enjoy, appreciate the beauty of nature, and eat incredible food, this is the spot. The staff are also incredibly friendly and make you feel welcome whether you speak English or Spanish. I spoke Spanish, but I observed how great they were with English speakers as well. What a gem! What yo may not realize, from the name, is that they serve much more than coffee & ice cream. Their breakfasts are delicious! We highly recommend the huevos rancheros & the omelette. The coffee is great. We haven't tried their ice cream yet but plan to do so soon... we have heard that it is excellent. All this in a cute setting, right on the beach with a family of sloths living in the nearby almond trees. Finally, the family that owns this restaurant are super special. Relaxed and charming spot by the sea! La Playa is a great place to stay — simple in the best way, with a relaxed vibe where you can hear the waves and enjoy a beautiful sea view. They serve delicious coffee (also with lactose-free or almond milk!), fantastic ice cream, rich brownies, and the best carrot cake. Their smoothies are fresh, tasty, and fully customizable.

The friendly staff and the sweet local sloths Luna and her sister Sol, who love hanging out in the tree above, add an extra touch of charm.
