We had the most incredible dining experience at Tucanes while celebrating our honeymoon at the Tabacon Resort. From start to finish, everything was perfect! The service was top-notch, and the romantic ambiance near the pool made the evening feel extra special.
To start, we were treated to complimentary appetizers—a pineapple crisp and focaccia with a unique spicy whipped butter and hibiscus salt. I enjoyed a refreshing tropical cocktail, while my husband loved his coffee-based Old Fashioned. We shared the Tuna Tartare, which was delicious, followed by our entrées—Pollo al Pesto for me (which I’m still dreaming about!) and a perfectly cooked lobster tail with coconut rice, plantain crisps, and Caribbean pepper sauce for my husband. Every dish was beautifully crafted with incredible flavors.
For dessert, we ordered the Burnt Basque Cheesecake with activated charcoal ice cream—absolutely amazing! But the biggest surprise was when our waiter brought out a special "Happy Honeymoon" dessert plate. Such a thoughtful and sweet touch! The manager even stopped by to check on our experience, which made us feel truly valued.
We also dined at Tucanes for breakfast every day of our stay and were never disappointed. The food, service, and overall experience were outstanding. We are so grateful for the memories and highly recommend Tucanes to anyone...
Read moreI don’t even know what to say. The restaurant is nice, we sat poolside and the ambiance was great, and so was the service. If it wasn’t for that I would give it 1 star.
The food is terrible. Straight awful, no chaser. It’s over priced, and just plain bad. I had the pork ribs. The plate came with 3 ribs, on top of a plantain purée. I love plantains, but I actually had to look at the menu again to figure out what the purée even was. It was inedible. Basically it was $30 for three ribs and some fried kale.
My date got the sea bass, which she liked. It came with a small side of quinoa, and some black eggplant purée that tasted like burnt wood.
While I was in the middle of writing this review, the manager came over and asked how our food and service was. I told him that the service was outstanding, but the food was terrible. My suggestion for people coming here is to enjoy the hot springs, but go to Tifakara or into town for dinner. If you have to eat at the resort, try the empanadas, and ceviche at the bar. Lupita is awesome and the small plates were overpriced, but were the best things we ate the whole time...
Read moreWe had a day pass to Tabacon Thermal Resort and used it to get access to dine at Tucanes as it’s normally reserved for resort guests.
The restaurant is a stroll from the main building through some beautiful landscape walkways. The decor is warm and inviting, and the staff was attentive. The food looked amazing, but unfortunately, the taste did not match the presentation. The octopus and airline chicken were on the dry side, and the catch of the day lacked flavor. On the other hand, the mussels and chorizo did deliver in taste. We did not have breakfast there, but according to most of the reviews, the food was better.
This restaurant is considered to be fine dining at the high end Tabacon Resort, and the prices reflect that. However, I wished that the food would have tasted as good as the...
