Highly recommend for humming bird lovers.
My husband and I went around 8:30 am and stayed there until 10 am. Hot chocolate was delicious and warmed us on the drizzly cold morning. The buzzer they gave us added convenience as we got to watch the birds while waiting for the drink.
The hummingbird feeder was not filled yet in the beginning (gift shop lady came to fil it around 9am), and the hummingbirds were READY to eat. They are not shy and will land on you, especially if you wear red/yellow tops prior to feeders getting refilled.
I was slightly worried since there are some negative reviews. We felt like the price was fair (3000 for 2 cups of hot chocolate and we paid the similar price in town), and gift shop price was not too bad since another shop was selling same ground coffee for more. It was not cheap, but nothing in Monteverde is cheap, unfortunately. There were no pastries, so I can't comment on that. We were told the family that owns the shop had to fight the regulations against placing hummingbird feeders. That's the reason this is the only spot for crazy hummingbird...
Read moreWe made a day trip from Playa Grande on the coast, to the Cloud Forest at the recommendation of a long time family friend, Marco Sanchez (Amigo Realty, Playa Grande). It is a long drive for a day trip, but the Cloud Forest was worth it. One of our group (me), was a little too far out of shape for the relatively mild trails, so while the others covered many of the parks sites I had the wonderful experience of Cafe Colibri. It is nothing fancy, but serves tasty coffee, sandwiches and snacks. And then there are the hummingbirds. We maintain a feeder at our home in Arizona and we have several year round hummer friends. Cafe Colibri has an amazing number and many types of hummers. I enjoyed watching them feed and fight for more than an hour. The food at the cafe has a better selection than the restaurant just up the road nearer the trail head and then the hummers make it really,...
Read moreCoffee was ok, however I was served a pañuelo de queso with dried-out cheese, wasn’t fresh at all. I bought it back and complained, and the servers told me it was from yesterday 😂 and that was normal??? Did they offer to replace it or anything? No, they couldn’t give a sh¡t. Then my Costa Rican wife went inside to complain some more, and they became VERY rude. Not worth it. ALSO: there’s no parking 🙃 UPDATE- proprietor now gets defensive while not addressing the staff responsibility to make the experience a good one; like staff warning a customer that the cheese is like cardboard, or offering to correct the issue and make it right. ALSO you have video of me, and your staff work in a public space, so yes we can take video too. Look you can run your business however you want and leech off of tourists that will only visit one time, and I can also leave you a...
