We had high hopes for this "Texas Steakhouse." W/o a doubt, this was among the worst experiences as I have had the [dis]pleasure of experiencing cuisine from, around the world.

Spicy margherita ($21.00) on their Cocktail menu was ordered extra spicy. Came out super bitter. The master "mixologist" comes over and says he used less agave to make it spicier. ?!? B.S... Come to find out, they have a practice of under-sweetening drinks for fear they might have to redo them. He claims that he would rather add sweetener after the fact at the table than risk losing a drink (money).

ordered a glass of Albarino ($17.50) but delivered a Chardonnay. When the issue was addressed, they brought over the bottle of the Albarino to provide a taste of what is, obviously, a different wine. It does not even look the same, as it is much clearer. The guy doubles down- so ridiculous.

Sea Bass ($33.00) overcooked and over salted.

Ribeye ($75. roughly 14oz) was ordered Pittsburgh style. It was confirmed they could do it. Instead, I got meat that looked like a soggy piece of cardboard and had NO char. They took it back and returned the same piece now darker - still not Pittsburgh. The quality was unacceptable w nearly 1/2 ( ONE HALF) of the meat fat and gristle. (See pix)

The manager came out and agreed that it should have never left the kitchen.

"Flan de Coco" ($11) [coconut flan] which was more akin to a soggy custard ($11) and, of course, when this was pointed out, the waiter responds "That's just how we make it here". - priceless and accurate

Not another word from the house, and, yes, they charged full price - for everything!

As an expat living here, I have to wonder if sometimes we start to long so much for a bit of home, that we desperately fool ourselves into not recognizing a overhyped, overpriced, distasteful culinary experience - Doris...

We won’t be going back to Doris.  We are an expat family living in San Jose, and Doris was one of our favorite restaurants.  We have a nice wine collection, and we were happy to learn that pretty much every restaurant in Costa Rica allows you to bring your own wine for a reasonable corkage fee.  In mid-July 2022, I took a group of coworkers to Doris and brought along some wines.  The manager was kind enough to allow me to open it, as he remembered me bringing wine in previous visits, but he informed me that the owner had decided to no longer allow customers to bring their own wine.  When I asked him why, he said the owner wanted to sell his own wine.  While the wine selection at Doris is better than most restaurants in San Jose, it is, of course, ridiculously overpriced – most bottles are priced at least three times over their market value.  This is frustrating, as Doris is clearly not hurting for money.  They could take my business with the corkage, but instead they are opting for the shortsighted business approach that will result in us not going back and losing our business all together.  If you are hoping to have a nice bottle of wine from your collection and a nice meal, go to Bacchus, Furca, Gusto, Andiamo La, or one of the many other locations in San Jose that still...

Went for dinner to Doris last evening - regular diner at Doris. Ordered a steak, burger and Caesar salad. Half way through the meal a green worm was crawling in the Caesar salad. We obviously lost our appetite - did not expect this from Doris where I would have thought that hygiene and especially proper washing of vegetables/salads would be of utmost importance. Called the manager who apologized but said that given time of the year there are worms in the salad - all the more reason for a 5 star restaurant to be more careful and wash vegetables well. They offered to get something else from the menu or desert but of course we had lost our appetite and honestly were quite disgusted by the response that at "this time of year there are worms" like it is normal. What also surprised me was that Doris could do with better customer respect and should have not charged at all given that my family and I stopped eating after seeing the worm - but they still charged for the steak and additional items - not the salad and burger which also had the salad!! WELL...

Long-awaited first time at Doris Metropolitan (although I figured it would be in my old home place of New Orleans and not the original San Jose 🇨🇷 location! Beautiful space in Santa Ana neighborhood with impeccable service. Thoroughly enjoyed the artichoke flower, sizable octopus app and the chopped tagliatelle (never seen this noodle chopped like that and the pecorino Romano was A+) but the T-Bone was the star of the show. Was just the two of us but cool to see so many families enjoying meals at Doris (kids menu and a playground outside) - if was a local I’d take advantage of the more casual portion of the menu (burgers and pastas). Hope to make it back one day, much more affordable than the US menus and just an all-around great first dining experience at Doris!

We had high hopes for this place. The homemade complementary bread was great. The scallops were not great. There were five very small, overcooked scallops with olive tamponade over asparagus and what tasted like a corn puree. The main course (steak, mashed potatoes with roasted garlic, and grilled asparagus) was good. It is a la carte so you are paying $40+ for an 7 oz steak alone plus sides. The chocolate souffle was good and worth the $10. The dirty martinis were just ok, not worth the price. The service, not so great. For the few tables occupied we expected more attentive service. We ended up paying $200 for 4 martinis and to share an app, entre, dessert. Overall, I would not go back for the price we paid and the service we received.
