Anclas Restaurante & Bar — Restaurant in Tamarindo

I came here to eat with my family and I was surprised but disappointed at the same time. My cousin promised it was going to be an incredible experience with bursts of flavors in your mouth, and even though that happened in my plate, it didn’t in others. I ordered a salmon in mushroom sauce with vegetables and mashed potatoes. I must say — everything was very good. However, the vegetable and mashed potatoes portions were extremely small, especially compared to the salmon. Even though it was mostly good, the salmon did have a bitter-like taste on some parts. They also messed up our drinks and we had to wait an eternity for some of them to arrive. The service was mid, as our waiters seemed nervous and were acting strangely. The atmosphere is just really bland. The only thing that makes it somewhat decent is the fact that the hotel at the side has a pool that you can see from the restaurant. The good thing about this restaurant is it has plates for all ranges of budgets. It has for low and high budgets. In my case, my plate was $35, or approximately 17,000 colones. While, on a motorcycle ride through Costa Rica, I wanted to stop by to support local restaurants. I happened to drive by Anclas and it is the best restaurant so far in my four day trip. Very fresh seafood, and lots of it! I ordered the fresh ceviche and the baked lobster/Seafood sampler and a delicious margarita. For all of that, it was US$60. Back in the US it would’ve been more than double. So as far as I am concerned, it was a huge value.

Read the fantastic review so we tried it out. Breaded fish was great & hot. not fishy at all. Fries were cold & very little. cold salad served on the same hot plate.. a no no. My wife's lobster tales & mashed potatoes were stone cold. Could not find a server anywhere so she just ate it. Manager noticed we were waiting a long time for our plates to be cleared so he took them. Asked how the food was. He did say sorry & told the Chief. Chief gave our table a grizzly stare.
