The Fillipi restaurant is truly a culinary gem; the flavors are exquisite, and the food is prepared with the utmost attention to detail. Firstly, the Lardo and Burata appetizer was a perfect start to the evening, with the flavor of the cured meat complementing the creaminess of the cheese. The Cuttlefish risotto with sea bass croquet and broad beans was outstanding; the combination of the perfectly cooked risotto with the crispy croquet and the fresh herbs were a masterclass in flavor pairing. The homemade macaroni with shrimp was another stand-out dish; the pasta was perfectly cooked, and the shrimp was mouth-wateringly succulent.
For the main course, I had the sous vide lamb with parsnip cream, breaded potato croquet, asparagus, and a demi-glaze. The lamb was cooked to perfection, with the parsnip cream adding a subtle sweet earthy flavor to the dish, while the breaded potato croquet provided a crunchy texture. The freshness of the asparagus cut through the rich demi-glaze, bringing balance to the dish. Additionally, the sea bass with gregada fous was delightfully cooked; the fish was flaky and moist, and the gregada fous added a nice touch of freshness.
The wine pairing for the meal was excellent, with each wine complementing the flavor profile of each dish. The selections chosen by the sommelier highlighted the flavor palate of the food, and each glass complemented the flavor of each dish perfectly.
Lastly, the service provided by our head waiter Brane was seamless. He was attentive, knowledgeable, and engaging, which helped enhance our dining experience. Brane was attentive to our needs and provided excellent recommendations, while also being personable and engaging, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
Overall, Fillipi provides a memorable dining experience; the flavors are exquisite, and the execution is flawless. The attention paid to every detail of the ingredients and the pairing between wine and food elevates the dining experience to a new level of excellence. I highly recommend Fillipi and cannot wait to...
Read moreThis was one of the worst restaurants I have been to in a while. I had high expectations based on reviews and the fact that the restaurant is in the Michelin guide, which I usually find is a good indication of quality. But I was left so disappointed.
I had the soup of the day as a starter, which was courgette. It was one of the worst soups I have ever had. Very bland in taste and the texture was sort of lumpy and watery at the same time. I tried adding salt to it but could not rescue it. I didn't want to finish it based on its taste. My husband had the dalmatian mixed starter plate, which he liked but when I tried it I found that all the elements were quite salty and without any element on the dish to counteract this.
I then had the truffle pasta for my main which was quite nice. My husband had the duck breast, which was so bad that neither of us would eat it and it was sent back. Thankfully the restaurant did not charge us for that dish. When the duck arrived the waitor even informed us that it had been cooked medium well, when we had asked for it to be medium. It looked so unappetising, a sort of grey colour. It was tough and dry and came on a bed of watery and tasteless apple puree and with a bland orange sauce. This is not a properly constructed dish as far as I am concerned and a poorly executed one.
After two disappointing dishes, we were keen to leave the restaurant as soon as possible, without ordering dessert. Even without paying for the duck dish, the bill still came out higher than other meals we had on Korcula Island! We felt like we had landed into a tourist trap at Filippi! So disappointed. We warned other guests on our holiday package to avoid...
Read moreWe ordered a starter (lardo), cranberry pasta hors d'oeuvres (150kn), rump steak (205kn)
The starter had good flavours, nice presentation. The pasta didn't have much flavour and was very small (it is a starter but priced like a main). The steak was tasty, but lukewarm, with the carrot undercooked. The speed of service was generally slow.
We were served by Boris, who was the redeeming element of this visit.
We made a reservation the day before as it was fully booked, for the 9pm serving. It took about 10minutes to be shown to our table and we had to get up and ask for a menu. Boris apologised and said they were a man down - I guess each waiter serves specific tables as the waiter for the table next to us did not pay us any mind.
We've been quite used to half-hearted apologies in Croatia, but Boris really tried to put things right: he offered to reheat or make a new main, then offered a free dessert and deducted the steak from the bill; he investigated what went wrong in the kitchen and communicated it to us. It seems they have new kitchen staff, which may explain why the more recent reviews haven't been as good as those in the past.
Overall, decent starter and steak flavour-wise, disappointing pasta, slow service, but really, we were glad to be served by Boris, who had a lot more charisma than other...
