From what I can recall, some years ago there used to be a restaurant in the old part of the town with the same or similar name. It was an amazing French restaurant with genuine fine dining. So when we booked a dinner for two at this, highly advertised and awarded restaurant, we expected the same care for details. But for 120 Euros here’s what we got: a rather plain French baguette with olive oil and spices. A lobster soup which was at the right temperature and texture but nothing unforgettable. A fresh but very mediocre foie gras, with unacceptably not fresh vegetable decoration. A deer dish which was obviously half-frozen and semi-precooked (not that this is a problem, provided it is clearly stated on the menu!). A glass of St Emilion Cabernet-Merlot wine. And, finally, a well cooked duck with splendid orange sauce. Unfortunately the meat had a heavy smell and we couldn’t eat a third bite. Not that the meat was bad; it just had the heavy smell of a cheap or frozen duck that you buy at supermarkets.
