After hearing about Tambayan CPH and its promise of authentic Filipino cuisine, my expectations were high. Traveling all the way from Malmö, where we were visiting from Los Angeles, the journey itself was a testament to our anticipation and craving for a taste of home. Unfortunately, our experience was far from the flavorsome homecoming we yearned for.
Upon entering Tambayan CPH, we were met with an ambiance that hinted at Filipino culture, but that was as close as it got to feeling like home. The menu, while attempting to showcase a variety of Filipino dishes, fell remarkably short in delivering the authentic taste that defines our rich culinary heritage.
One of the cornerstones of Filipino cuisine is the balance of savory, sweet, sour, and spicy flavors, which was noticeably absent in the dishes we ordered. The adobo chicken wings lacked the depth of soy and vinegar-infused tenderness, the sinigang missed that quintessential tamarind zest, and the halo-halo was a mere shadow of the colorful medley it traditionally is. It was as if the essence of Filipino cooking was lost in translation, leaving the food bland and unrecognizable.
Moreover, the prices did not reflect the quality or authenticity of the food served. It is one thing to pay for a premium when the experience justifies the cost, but it's entirely another when neither the taste nor the authenticity lives up to what Filipino cuisine truly has to offer. Dining at Tambayan CPH felt like a missed opportunity to showcase the vibrant flavors of the Philippines.
For Filipinos longing for a taste of home or for those wishing to explore the true essence of Filipino gastronomy, Tambayan CPH may not be the destination of choice. It is with a heavy heart that I must advise my kababayans and fellow food enthusiasts to steer clear of this establishment if what you seek is genuine Filipino flavor. The journey from Malmö, let alone from LA, is a commitment that should be rewarded with a culinary experience reminiscent of the Philippines' rich and diverse palette, which, regrettably, Tambayan CPH does not provide.
In a city that thrives on culinary diversity, it's essential for ethnic restaurants to deliver an experience that is both authentic and memorable. Sadly, Tambayan CPH did not live up to this promise, and our quest for a delightful Filipino meal continues. It was, in all aspects, a waste of time and money – a sentiment I share with a heavy heart, hoping for better representations of our...
Read moreSuper delicious Filipino food! I would definitely recommend everyone to go there.
I used to visit the restaurant a lot when it was located in the basement in Copenhagen, and I was so sad when they had to move to Amager since it's quite far for me. This was my first time trying the new location, and I really hoped the food would still be the same.
I’m happy to say that the food is still just as good and tastes the same as before! But I’m really disappointed that they no longer offer the tasting bowl, where you could get a main dish with some side dishes included (like spring rolls and mussels).
Please bring it back, even if you have to raise the price 🙏—it was so good! Now, you have to buy all the side dishes separately, which ends up being way too much food. I couldn’t bring myself to remove a star because the food is still amazing, but I really think it’s a shame that you can’t get the full tasting experience anymore.
This time, I had the beef tapa, spring rolls, and flame-grilled mussels with cheese. I also had the amazing ice tea and a calamansi juice. The calamansi juice telly brings back memories from my travels the the...
Read moreAs a Filipino myself, I get homesick for my mom's cooking easily so when I get a taste of good Filipino food, it hits the spot just right. Their meal bowls have so much variety and the sauce for the sweet pork barbecue is just splendid! A day after my birthday, my boyfriend knew I was craving Filipino food so he decided to take us and our two other friends here! Everyone loved the food. When I first visited Copenhagen, this spot was also a Filipino eatery that had the same menu kind of. Perhaps they renamed/rebranded or changed owners but I remember the taste being as good as it was! A 'tambayan' in the Philippines is meant to be a place where you can have fun and share memories with people, have a good laugh and enjoy the hospitality and food. This place provides that. And for me to see non-Filipinos enjoy Filipino food, it's an extreme joy. ❤️ Will definitely come back again. Thankfully it's very accessible to Faraos Cigarer which has recently become my favorite shop in that area, so after a hangout of card games there, it's great to top it off with a hangout of comfort...
