Years ago, Peter Liep was an amazing and fun Danish culinary institution and experience. My family would bring visitors from around the world to this restaurant to wow them with the smørrebrød (Danish open-faced sandwiches) experience. Jovial, tipsy and rude waiters dressed in black rushed around with long menus and balanced huge tiered platters of masterfully designed Danish open-faced sandwiches. The beer and akvavit flowed freely at every table and the din of laughter and jabbering was unmistakable. This was one of the most popular and busy restaurants in Denmark.
Fast forward to today. I brought 5 Ukrainians to Peter Liep and innocently thought they too would get a taste of Denmark. I peeked inside. The place was mostly empty. It was great weather, so we sat outside. Our waitress brought a tiny menu with smørrebrød. I inquired where the big menu was and she informed me that there was a new owner.
From there it just went downhill. We were served small, simple pieces of smørrebrød at outrageous prices. I ordered an open-faced egg sandwich and was served a half slice of ryebread topped with a few slices of egg and tomato, dabbled with some green mayo and topped with preserved mirabelles or gooseberries. Price 105 kr. Taste? Boring. Sight? Totally lackluster. My guests were polite. They said their food was "interesting". The service was the worst. The waitress served our food and forgot the cutlery. We were served water without glasses and had to get up from the table to get napkins, salt etc.
The best part of Peter Liep is the location in the forest. Grab a coffee in the adjacent outdoor café but don't come for the food at the restaurant, you risk being very disappointed...
Read moreWhat have happened to Peter Lieps Hus? I have been there more than 20 times during the last 25 years - but now I am done with them.
The portions are now less than half of what they used to be. Apparently they have new owners and they seem to think they can increase the profit this way - but will the custmers come back? While most of the food were average, the fried fish was totally dryed out and uneatable! When I showed that to the waitor, she agreed and left to talk to the owner. The owner came out to the table, looked at the fish and agreed that it was dry and left. It was impyed that they were going to make a new one for us - but they never did.. we just sat there waiting.
To satisfy our hunger - we had to go to another restaurant.
The only positive thing left about the place is the location..
Responding to your answer:
Parts of the food you served were inedible. WE gave you feedback on site and the opportunity to correct the mistake - which you ignored.
Answering our feedback on Google: Instead of addressing the problems, you talk about that you upgradeed the facade. You hit the nail on the head - YOU ARE JUST A FACADE...
Read moreBesides getting shouted at by the manager before sitting down, because he had not read our comment in the reservation, the service was attentive and professional. The 'big lunch' (overpriced even with Tipster vouchers) was weird because none of all the minimalistic bits and pieces of food and garnish plated like in a Michelin restaurant really tasted all that well. We were hungry, so we had to eat the food. We also got a few extra dishes: The curry heering lacked heering, and the two small slices of cold-smoked salmon was unfortunately cooked on a huge pile of steaming hot, not that pleasant tasting, overcooked scrambled eggs. We truly hope that the head chef was off work this afternoon. Due to our encounter with the manager at first, we had no appetite for more of those and chose not to provide any feedback in...
