First I want to say that the service from the girls and the food are both excellent here. And the fact they support the local girl's school and try to give them better opportunities in life is really great. We came here many times last year and will continue to come here this year. We try and leave a generous tip. So it really pains me to have to say this. I just want people to be aware. I am in no way bashing the food or service. But I have yet to experience the extreme "gringo" pricing as I did here. Last week I was not paying close attention and got nixed for an extra $10 u.s ,when paying in American dollars. The total was 1300 pesos ,equivalent to $22 u.s on that day. When the young lady did the conversion she charged me $32 u.s. So we went back today and I checked the conversion as we got our food. The total was 1120 pesos or $18.22 u.s. The same young lady did her conversion and asked for $23.50 u.s. All the above included taxes etc. I did not miss anything. So now I will only pay in pesos at the coffee house. I also wonder where all this American $$ is going, that is being skimmed off the top. I also know there is a lot of "gringo" pricing going on in the Dominican. An American dollar here and an American dollar there I can except, but not this. Pay in pesos folks. A...
Read moreThe Cabarete Coffee Company is my favorite place for coffee, breakfast and afternoon snacks in Cabarete.
I love starting my day while eating my "old fashioned oatmeal" (with all of the fixings), and watching the dozens of motorcycle taxies drive back and forth. If you're lucky, you may see one doing a stunt.
Every menu item I've tried is incredibly delicious. The staff is friendly and speak English fluently. "Karina" who usually takes my order, actually reminded me to hold the bananas in my oatmeal (had not yet had my coffee. Lol ).
This place is 100% environmentally and health conscious. According to their signage, they are entirely organic and support local farmers.
In addition, all sale proceeds are used to fund the "Mariposa Foundation", which helps educate young girls to lift them out of poverty.
This unassuming little coffee shop / restaurant is a real gem and I strongly...
Read moreCabarete Coffee was conveniently located right outside the neighborhood where we rented a villa while on vacation. It offers an amazing variety of food, drinks and coffee. Not only is it fresh and made to order but it’s delicious as well! Their smoothies and croissants always hit the spot and we would often take them back to the villa. We missed going there everyday when we returned home. We also love how their mission supports Mariposa DR which helps local girls be empowered and educated. It’s a win win for everyone. My kids enjoyed sitting outside and watching people go by on the street or playing games inside in the A/C! My son loved the waffles and a few days in they knew what his order would be before he said it. Great and friendly staff. Highly...
