Where do I begin? The customer service. quality, ambiance and overall experience of this whole place is outstanding. If you can't be bothered to read the rest, let me summarise for you...Eat here...It is outstanding!
If you have decided to continue reading, here is a list of things we loved:
From the moment we were outside trying to find the restaurant itself, we were guided by one of the employees on his break. We should have booked online, but they shuffled things around to accommodate us. Not many restaurants go above and beyond like that, but this one does.
All of the employees were excellent; friendly, engaging with our two children, always on hand to help and for advice and very professional at the same time. I was most impressed with their attention to detail and noted how they are constantly striving to improve their standards. One of the owners, Dareen, even came over to us and asked my daughter, who was happily swinging on one of the swing seats by our table, how the strawberry lemonade was as it was new on the menu. She has a delightful way with both customers and her staff and was a breath of fresh air compared to some other places. A truly winning management style pervades this place. A joy to see and experience.
As for the quality of the pizza itself, it was the best in Cairo by far. We have tried a number of different pizzerias, italian restaurants, fast food outlets and attempted (poorly!) our own versions, however, none come close to the traditional Neapolitan pizza at "What the Crust". It is hands down the best pizza in Cairo. WTC is also officially the first AVPN-certified pizzeria in Africa, and the first female-led affiliate in the MENA region! Need I say more?
Selling their own dough and flour to make your own pizzas at home is also a genius idea and further highlights the family values of this wonderful restaurant.
They have a zero waste policy, feeding leftovers to stray animals and use extra parmesan and vegetable ends to cook staff meals.
My advice is short and sweet - Get down there and enjoy - you will not be...
Read moreI recently had the unfortunate experience of dining at [what the crust], and I must say, it was nothing short of disappointing. From the lackluster service to the subpar quality of the food, this establishment failed to meet even the most basic expectations.
First and foremost, the service was abysmal. The staff seemed disinterested and inattentive throughout our entire visit. It took an eternity for someone to take our order, and when they finally did, they seemed annoyed by our presence, and we had to repeatedly flag down a server just to get their attention.
Now let's talk about the main event - the pizza. It was a complete letdown. The crust was undercooked and doughy, lacking any crispness or flavor. The toppings were sparse and poorly distributed, leaving large areas of plain cheese or sauce with no other ingredients in sight. The cheese itself was rubbery and tasted like it came straight out of a cheap grocery store bag.
To make matters worse, the menu boasted a variety of specialty pizzas that sounded enticing but turned out to be nothing more than a marketing ploy. We ordered one such pizza only to receive a sad excuse for what was promised. The toppings were haphazardly thrown on top without any care for presentation or taste.
The overall ambiance of WTC was also disappointing. The interior felt outdated and neglected, with worn-out furniture and unclean tables that made us question their hygiene standards.
Lastly, let's not forget about the exorbitant prices charged for such subpar quality food. We left feeling utterly ripped off as we could have easily gotten better pizza at half the price from any local pizzeria.
In conclusion, I strongly advise against wasting your time and money at WTC. The lack of service, poor quality food, and unimpressive ambiance make it a regrettable dining experience. Save yourself the disappointment and seek out a different pizza joint that truly values their customers and takes pride in delivering...
Read moreThis is the best pizza I’ve had in years! I really liked the Italian place in Zamalek, but this place wins with their crust and quality service.
We made reservations a couple of hours ahead of time for a Wednesday night at 5:30 and I’m glad I did because it was already busy and they turned away a car full of people when we left an hour later.
We sat at the table with the swings which my toddler loved. They also had a baby chair and wooden utensils for younger kids too. We loved watching them cook and chatting with the chefs. They quickly learned my son’s name and multiple people checked on us.
We had the capricciosa and their chocolate desert pizza. Our main pizza had perfect crust with nice marks from their pizza oven. There was the perfect amount of toppings. I loved the garlicky mushrooms. Side note that their oven can cook four pizzas at a time in about a minute.
I was so happy to find out that they used real pistachios and hazelnuts on the dessert pizza because my son has a peanut allergy that would have been a huge issue if they had tried to cheat on this.
I will...
