I think they finally got a good manager and a person who can take the lead 😉we are referring to Sa’id (Saeed) not sure if we spelled his name correctly. He was very respectful and kind and demonstrated good customer service, as we are foreigners and sometimes people are a little rude because we are not Egyptian so it was refreshing to feel welcomed. He explained what was on the menu and spoke decent English. While we were eating, we noticed he was communicating with the kitchen crew and was making sure they were on top of the delivery orders... he even grabbed a big amount of bags and took them out himself to keep the speed of the restaraunt smooth and efficient. he was cleaning all of the tables making sure the napkins were in their spot and everything was clean and fresh. the food was also very fresh and he even told us how many minutes it would take and he was correct. he was very kind. I don’t know if he is a manager but to us he seemed like a manager. in the past years we have been to zooba and have not seen this kind of service. before, people used to look very lazy and slow and did not act kind or welcoming. it has completely changed during this visit- so we want to make sure to review and say good job on hiring such a good person who takes control of the situation. we hope to see...
Read moreI went to zooba maadi for a post workout meal. Incredibly overrated, quality wise, and also overpriced for a less than average quality. The place was not busy as it was way past breakfast/brunch time on Friday. I asked to have mint tea with my food. The food came and the tea didn’t. I asked my server several times about the tea and she said she is waiting for the water to boil (it took the water 30+min to boil). I finished my food and went to her telling her to cancel the tea as I’m done. She was like no the water is ready and I can’t take it off the bill. She started pouring the boiled water anyway on the dry tea and mint, making it a de facto situation i have to deal with. I told her, ok! I’m still not going to drink it. She came to my table and put it anyways with such a nonchalant attitude! I went to pay at the cashier and told them about what happened and that no way on earth I’m going to pay for tea! To be fair, the manager was very responsive and apologetic and immediately issued another modified bill, minus the tea. I would not recommend the...
Read moreI wasn’t blown away by Zooba when I visited their NYC location, but their Cairo branches are out of this world— totally different menu that’s 1,000 times more expansive. Whereas the NYC branch only had the basics of koshary and falafel, the Maadi Zooba covers vast territory in Egyptian cuisine. The list goes on and on: Alexandrian ful, tameeya with eggplant and beetroot/hibiscus tamina, fresh bessara and labna, beef brisket hawawshi with harissa-raisin hot sauce and orange-carrot slaw, etc etc etc. Each dish is made to order with the freshest ingredients.
Zooba is expensive for Cairo, which may explain for some of the more critical reviews, but after dining at over a dozen establishments (including well-regarded hole in the wall greasy spoons and finer dining joints) in Cairo, Zooba ultimately stood out to me as the meal with the...
