Amazing! My favorite restaurant while visiting San Salvador hands down. I wish I had taken photos of everything. I had the Gallo en Chica which is a very rich, savory rooster soup. Yes, rooster! It had a great flavor. Still like chicken, but slightly different.
The soup itself was very rich, with prunes, a potato, carrots, and a squash of some sort. The broth was amazing. It was sweet and tangy, you could taste a strong element of carrots but in a caramelized way. I saw a review on here say this dish had everything, sweet/savory/umami/salty etc. it does!!
The next time I come back to El Salvador - I’m coming here and getting that dish again!!
At the end of the meal we were given some candies, handmade by I think the owner. It’s a caramelized molasses treat! I asked to purchase a bulk of them to bring home as I was flying back the next day to Houston and the owner gave me some extra on top of what I paid for ❤️. I really appreciate it. My Mama Lucy (great grandmother) used to make the same candy when I was a child, it was...
Read moreVisited on a weekday night and was surprised it was rather quiet. Took a while for the waitress to give me the menu, I guessed she wasn't confident to come back to take orders in English so she got another waiter to take my order. The waiter could speak some simple English and I asked him for recommendations, even though I knew I should be ordering the Sopa Gallina. He also recommended the same dish and recommended me some grills to try. I had the Costilla de Cerdo and also ordered a Horchata. First time trying the Sopa Gallina didn't know what to expect, but it was quite delicious. Actually regretted ordering the grill because I thought the soup was quite filling, didn't know there was already rice inside the soup. I managed to finish the meat but did not touch the rice as I already had in the soup. Meal was overall enjoyable and the price is really reasonable! I would also recommend this place to try the...
Read moreWe wanted good typical salvadoran food while visiting El Salvador and my wife and i found “Sapon Tipico”. What a disaster this place was. The food is mediocre at best, but what really annoyed me was that the prices on the menu are not what they actually charge you. I ordered a steak combo with sopa de gallina. The menu said $10.50, which is appropriate for El Salvador. When i got the check, they charged me $19.50. And the soup, which wasnt even that good, was served after I finished the main course, after i had specifically requested it with the meal. Oh, and forget adding to or altering your order. I wanted onions on my steak. Big no no. No additions. So, low quality food, misleading menu prices and poor service. Don’t make the same mistake we did. Heads up, fellow tourists. Steer clear...
