Grand Holm Marina — Restaurant in Haapsalu linn

After three stay overs I Grand Holm Marina I can say that the personnel is great and helpful. Restaurant well worth a visit. But,...the showers, toilets and the garbage management is not up to standards. No toilet paper in the toilets at any of the occasions I needed to do the business in the marina toilets. The marina toilets are important due to the limited septic tank space on board, which I want to save for sailing trip. There is no possibility to empty the septic tank. Hence important that marina toilets are acceptable. Which they definitely are not. Apart from the disappointment with the toilets, showers, septic waste reception and the garbage management Haapsalu as a city is absolutely wonderful and I recommend you to come here. Great shops, museums and cafés/restaurants. NB! Warning to sailors that are naive to think that big motor boats have any kind of courtesy in the very narrow channel leading to the Haapsalu harbour. They don't. They overtake very close and on port side. Since they also wave happily I believe they are just lacking knowledge of the collision avoidance rules...

What an utter shambles of a restaurant. The waitresses were running around like headless chicken. I felt I should have gone and helped one of them to open a bottle of wine at one point! It took them a good 20 minutes to appear with our drinks and a further 20 minutes for our food to arrive and it wasn’t even that busy. They failed to bring water glasses after reminding them twice. The dumplings were cold... I mean, I could go on... Oh, and is this a thing to charge for tap water? Wow... The other dishes were surprisingly good in the end but by that time we were all so annoyed that nothing could have made us feel better about the whole experience. One place to definitely avoid if...

Grand Holm Marina has electric picknic boats for rent: 35€ for 1 hour, max 6 people. Fun, but slow going. Depending on the waves and wind you'll only make it as far as to Kuursaal/polar bear statue by the promenade. Don't try to go too close, as the seaweed might get stuck in the engine. An awesome alternative to the row...
